He almost got fired even after they won the title last year. They've got some talent on that DL with Lemonier and Eguae, and Holland at LB and Whitehead at CB played ok this year, but that group has just been underwhelming since he got there. No fire, no passion, and noidentity likethe defenses they had under Muschamp and Chizik when they were coordinators. Roof was very much disliked down here, and it seems like he was asked to look elsewhere so Auburn didn't have to fire him officially.
All season long it was rumored that Wommack was going to probably retire at the end of the season. Nothing concrete just kind of a "hey were pretty sure he's leaving" type thing. His last year at Tech they gave up 30+ points a game and were near the bottom in the ACC. Really did not do a good job as DC at Ga Tech. Al Groh, who is a very good Defensive Coach has turned it around a good bit.
