the Pac-10 aint quite working out
When Oregon scored on the bomb from the first or second play from scrimmage in 2003, I should have turned off my TV then and just forgot about football in 03 from that point on.

I'm sure he's a nice guy and less of a jerk than Lane Kiffen, but when people are saying that about your coach, we all know what that means.

Dooley told the TN faithful that he was here to stay and wasn't using this as a stepping stone, and TN faithful were buying it...

Couple more games like this and they will be wanting him to go somewhere else. He may have pedigree, but so did Kyle Petty.

I never understood the hype about him when he was at LA Tech, and I still don't understand why Tennessee hired him. They panicked and made a bad hire.</p>

but at least in TN's defense, they weren't expecting to make a hire. A&M actually thought Mike Sherman was the best candidate.

wasn't it like 2 weeks before signing day? They needed a coach immediately. Kiffin totally 17ed UT over.

in Sherman's defense, it looks like they're getting better. They ewnt 4-8 his first year, then 6-7 last year with a bowl appearance, and now so far they have beaten up on two cupcakes, so the jury is still out. But they look pretty good so far.

And, even though he is a dick, I can't really blame him for taking the USC job. Especially since he already had ties there. As for Tennessee, just because you have to make a quick hire doesn't mean you have to just immediatly offer the job to a coach with a losing record at LA Tech.

I can't blame anyone for taking their dream job.

I really don't think he intended to leave UT high and dry after one year. It's not like he knew the USC job was going to come open the next year.

And I thought some of their fans acted pretty ridiculous when he left. I would have expected that from Alabama fans.

Also, you are 100% correct about UT panicing. OK, so, they lose one recruiting class with Kiffen bailing on them. Well, now if Dooley doesn't work out, they've actually caused more long term damage than they would have had if they had just been patient. What they should have done in my opinion is put together a huge Saban-esque package and offered it to Jon Gruden or Harbaugh at Stanford and then hire a great recruiting coordinator to go along with him.

Fulmer left it in terrible shape and Kiffin's antics didn't help.<div>
</div><div>The biggest problem Dooley faces is not losing this year. The people that matter know what kind of shape the program is in.</div><div>
</div><div>Dooley's problem is that he's recruiting like he's still at Louisiana Tech. If he doesn't change that approach, THAT is what will get him fired.</div>

but that doesn't change the fact that it totally screwed UT over right before signing day and they didn't have a whole lot of candidates to choose from for a national search.
