When UT's initial list was being talked about, it included Jay Wright and Jamie Dixon. Many people laughed and said UT needs to reconsider who they are, and that those guys and other big names on the list had better jobs already.
Lawrence Frank was also listed. He was basically dismissed as KG's waterboy.
Shaka Smart was labeled as a member of the Stan Heath/Keno Davis flavor of the month club, someone who would get hired off of one good March run.
So now they go the "hot young coach route" and take Cuonzo Martin, and people say it's a bust of a hire, etc.
So exactly who was UT supposed to hire? Personally I think it's a good hire. He played major college basketball and won two Big 10 titles and nearly made the Final Four. He worked as an assistant for one of the legendary coaches in America, and has had three years as the HC at Missouri State, in which his conference win totals have gone from 3 to 8 to 15.
So please experts, tell me why this is such a bad hire and who would have been better?
