He got the Akron Zips into a bowl game, against Utah State in Boise, Idaho, for the first time in a DECADE!

After a 1-11 first season when he was stuck mostly with players from two consecutive, previous 1-11 seasons, the former Mountaineer and son of Bobby Bowden went 5-7, 5-7 and 7-5 (the same W-L as WVU this season).

Akron hasn't had a better record than any of Terry's last three seasons since 2005, when it went 7-6.

He has taken a team that was 3-33 (!!!) over 3 seasons to 17-19 over the next 3 seasons.

This is NOT an endorsement for Terry to replace Dana at WVU. This is just spreading the good news about a former Mountaineer.

Terry has won seven national coaching awards and four conference or division titles.

He coached Auburn to an 11-0 season, lost to Peyton Manning in the SEC title game.

His career coaching record is 158-92-2.

The Bowden coaching tree is in good hands.

Good luck in Boise, Terry!

Credit where credit is due.

I read a quote by Terry once about turning around programs.

First you lose big, then you lose small. Then you win small, then you win big.

Any coach that gets Akron to a bowl game is a good coach. Akron is the worst program in THE MAC. Think about that long and hard.

Terry Bowden is 59 y/o around the same age as Doc Holliday. They will likely never get another opportunity to coach anywhere else. If you look at all the openings there where this year and no one came calling. Programs are not looking for HC in there late 50's
