Texas A&M heading East. Not if, but when...

From what I have gathered from Aggieland: A&M may have officially notified the Texas12-2, that they are "talks" with another conference. Word is, that letter was delivered yesterday.

While the fact A&M is largely considered SEC bound, may not surprise you, the agressive timetable surprises me. I was expecting an announcement pre- July 1, 2012, in order to get the 2013 schedules modified. There is an appearance of a pre- Labor Day announcement, with the intention on joining the SEC for the 2012 football season. Word is, again, that both the SEC, and A&M have done their due diligence, and all that is left is the legal separation from the Big12.

Texas Tech, Oklahoma, & Oklahoma State are odds on favorites to end up in a new Pac 16, with Texas becoming independent. (I know that this is not exactly news to message board addicts, like myself. But, some may need the basics)

Not a shock if it happens sooner. My money is on Missouri being the 14th team and the SEC stopping there. Not sure that any ACC teams would really want to leave and Missouri would jump at the chance to join the SEC. Plus they bring a very big market and competitive teams. This does create a problem with the East-West split. You could just move Auburn to the East, but that puts Bama in the opposite division from both Auburn and Tennessee and they would fight that hard. My solution is move Bama and Auburn to the East and move Vandy to the West. That creates a competitive imbalance, but I could live with it.

West: LSU, State, UM, Ark, Vandy, TAMU, Mizzou
East: UF, UGA, UT, UK, USC, Bama, Auburn

That actually would be pretty even in football for this season, but I don't know about long term.
The West could definitely hold their own in basketball and baseball.

My questions would involve the number of conference games and permanent opponents. Would we go to one permanent and one rotating slot, or add a 9th game?
Knowing us, we'd be stuck with Bama as a permanent opponent (which does kind of appeal anyway), while UM would get UK.
