But I go back to the first drive of the game: take the field goal. I’m all for being aggressive on 4th down, but early I prefer stacking points. Stay in the game. Put pressure on your opponent to score. It also gives you options later. They could have kicked right there to cut it to 4 had they taken 3 on the first drive. They would have the ball at the end trying to score a TD to win instead of down two possessions needing a miracle.
The same dynamic burned Ole Miss against Florida.
