Manning showed some good speed on that run. but still takes a lot of time to check down his receivers which is costing him precious time to figure out what to do.

So I started the game wanting Texas to win. After seeing a couple Arch Manning commercials, I decided I don't care anymore. Maybe I'll watch Ball State @ Purdue instead.

Manning got a lot of mileage out of his name. He’s done nothing on the field to warrant his anointment as the chosen one. He might get there - but hasn’t yet.

I was going to order a pair of those magic shorts that made him everything he is, until I saw him play.

He was really, really good against Mississippi State last year--not that Miss State is good but he was impressive
I think the criticism of him in this game is a lot like the criticism of Allar against better teams--even the best QBs are going to struggle against real defenses especially ones that can create pressure.
Not saying Arch is Peyton but I've seen nothing bad in this one other than some early nerves

Not the same! This is his first start. No warm up games before this game. Can’t think of a harder place to start.

You typically see these jittery games open up once the first score happens. That hasn’t been the case here.

These teams are objectively playing poorly.

Maybe save the big OOC games for game 2 or beyond …

I agree with that--I'm saying it's not that he hasn't done anything to warrant the hype. We saw what he could potential do in that Miss State game.
Ohio State just has the best secondary in the country. IMO Downs is the best player in the country.

I know it's the first game for both teams but both of these teams have been underwhelming at this point. QBs are ok not great but these teams both need a lot of work to justify their rankings

Both teams are playing stout D. Neither team showing much of a passing offense

Despite kicking off well after the other games of the early time slot, this game has caught up to and even passed the other noon games. Lots of clock running with little scoring.

I get where everyone is coming from but I don't see it that way at all. At the very least, I think "the spin" will be these are two elite defenses and defense is almost always ahead of the offense early in the season. I didn't think it was a bad half--I bet heavy on the under though so maybe I'm just enjoying that lol

Defenses are ok/good but both offenses are not very good at all. Texas can't get any WR open (looked like PSU against OSU last year). TX I think should run it more they had early success with that plus it's takes pressure off Manning with play action. But both these offenses are struggling. TX MVP should be their punter

The defenses are definitely stout.

Yes and Darius Ian like franklin plays too tight in big games. Osu would love this to stay close since their offense will take weeks to be good. Just in time for us. 😛

I think the defenses are much better than "ok/good". They're probably two of the best in the country.
I won't pretend I know how this board reacted last but Allar got crushed elsewhere and it's not because he sucks it's because Ohio State's defense is smothering. They play tight man and get pressure with just 4. If you don't have great WR (Texas may not) you're pass game is going look very, very bad.
Manning hasn't played well but it's not all on him. I think our run game will allow us to look better than this but we aren't scoring 30+ against them. Maybe not even 20

Kinda funny ... All the hype for this game and during the first half Gus keeps trying to hype up the QBs calling Manning royalty and the heir while touting Sayin the OSU QB can absolutely sling it with anybody. Both QBs 26 and 50 yards passing in the first half. As the teams going into the tunnels Gus says " well it wasn't quite what we thought we were going to see ..." Ever the optimist to keep people tuned in 😂

I disagree I don't know how good their defenses are since they played one half and they are playing 2 average offenses at best at this point. See what adjustments coaches make at half but I don't think anyone can say with certainty how good the defenses are

Alright--we can look back on this in November and see if you still don't think they're two of the best defenses
Also, if you don't know how good their defenses are how do you know these are average at best offenses? Make it make sense

I don’t like that they set these games up so we probably can’t watch the end of UT v OSU game before switching over to the true game of the week.

The games should be Noon, 4 and 8 IMO
I'll be throwing the Penn State game on my laptop until this one is over--assuming it's still close.

Now I just mocked another poster for complaining about the calls, but … dang … that was an absolute mauling by the Texas CB on that 3rd down throw. No call. Yikes.

kid grabbed the WR’s helmet with both hands as he was trying to make his turn, and then had him in full tackle steps before the throw was even there.

I have played enough football and watched enough football to know when I see 2 QBs really struggling due to many factors. Is it due to the defenses? Some... Is it missed assignments and routes? Some... Is it dropped balls and bad play calls while not recognizing to audible out of those calls into better calls ... Some ... Is it just great defense? Nope not in my opinion. You are seeing 2 QBs really struggling in their first big games

Again, we'll revisit this in November and see if you think the defenses were the primary factor

Texas now playing power football - running more - in the 2nd half. Driving inside OSU 10 yd line.

Well look here.... TX doing what I said they are running the ball where they had early success and taking the pressure of Manning. So far OSU defense doesn't look nearly as good this half do they
