excerpt:

With the announcement Thursday that the Pac-12 Conference will not explore expansion in the near future, the fracturing Big 12 will throw its energy into looking at potential new members, Kirby Hocutt said.

The Texas Tech athletics director is part of a four-person expansion subcommittee tasked with leading the effort, which starts immediately.

"Right now, our complete focus is to make the Big 12 as strong as it can possibly be," Hocutt said, "and I expect that Texas Tech will play a leadership role in that. We're going to continue to be part of the power-five structure in college athletics."........

The Big 12 in the past few days has enlisted Oliver Luck, the former West Virginia AD and XFL commissioner, as a consultant to aide in working through realignment.

Describing the group as already "active," Hocutt said they will meet with the Big 12 presidents early Friday and will have in-person meetings next week involving Big 12 athletics directors and media and television consultants.

"We're continually talking to commissioner (Bob) Bowlsby as well as Oliver Luck," Hocutt said, "and feel very fortunate to have Oliver engaged in our conversations in helping us navigate the waters as well."

from the article:

The Athletic, citing an unnamed source, reported Wednesday that at least 15 schools, most from the American Athletic Conference and the Mountain West, have contacted the Big 12 to express interest in joining.

Why would those teams not contact the Big 12. There are so many options for the Big 12 to choose from and many teams would add value. I have posted what teams those could be and how they would help the Big 12. So the question is do you *** 2 -4- 6 teams????

If you add 2 teams
BYU, Central Florida

If you add 4 teams
BYU, Central Florida, Memphis, Cincy'

If you add 6 teams
BYU, Central Florida, Memphis, Houston, Cincy, and either South Florida/Colorado St/Air Force

Sounds like Big XII commissioner is a weak minded leader. Why does Oliver Luck have to come in and do his job for him?

Probably because Oliver Luck will step in and replace him. IMO.

Schools have to make the contact or its considered interference

IF 6 I would add BYU, Navy, UCF, Memphis, Cincinnati, Colorado State.

Add 4 - BYU, UCF, Cincinnati, Memphis.

Should not add less than 4. But ESPN will be sure to tell them who to add.

If BIG 12 schools stay together--go to 16 with these divisions:

Cincinnati--top ten, rated nearly 9 million in Peach Bowl , strong market, great recruiting area. Bridges WVU gap
Navy/Uconn (maybe militaries wouldn't want to be in such a conference-UConn gets you into the biggest media market in the country)
UCF-huge school, very good football, great market/recruiting, good tv
USF--Have shown can be successful athletically--esp football. Big school and market, decent tv
Memphis--strong tv, good fanbase, big stadium, decent market, basketball
Tulane (AAU-ok athletics, great recruiting)-also in between Cincy and western programs.
BYU--national champs, lots of wins, good brand, big stadium, fans, media outlet
Houston/Rice (Rice is AAU)--Houston good tv, good athletics, major recruiting, big market, basketball. If you don't like UH, Rice is AAU--if you take Tulane gives both divisions 2 AAU schools.

ISU
OSU
WVU
KSU
TCU
Baylor
T Tech
Kansas

Play 9 conference games- 2 crossover divisional games per year. 2 P5 OOC if possible down the line.

Time to find a new pastime for the fall, folks. It's over.
If that is a truthful statement, don't let the door hit you where the Good Lord split you. Did you have the pleasure of being a WVU fan during the Southern Conference days? We have come a long way baby; the game ain't over until "The Fat Lady Sings".

I am surprised that there has not been more support for SMU as a potential new member.

SMU is the alma mater of a lot of big money and influential power brokers in Texas. They have a history of big time football in the past (both good and bad). With the new NIL rule, I could see them soon be a big time player in recruiting.

Dallas-Fort Worth has a lot of eyeballs for television. TCU will certainly not capture a lot of those eyeballs by themselves. But add in SMU and the large numbers of Texas Tech alumni in Dallas-Fort Worth and the new Big12 could be a big player in the Dallas-Fort Worth market.

In addition, SMU as a university is decently ranked in the various university rankings. They would help the academic profile of the new Big12.

Schools are trying to find out who is running the show
Bunch of people who want to be the chief but really are the Indians
So they are doing their own thing. Actually funny. Social experiment seems like

Trivia question:

While coaching at WVU from 1970-75, what is the only school that Bobby Bowden faced (and beat) from the state of Texas? Hint: Pregame, the Cotton Bowl scoreboard displayed the message, “Welcome, Miners.”

Times have changed. WVU now has a second residence in Texas.

Adding G5 schools will definitely move the Big12 into that lower status. No schools, even the pathetic press’s little darling byu, will not bring us any more money than what the Big12 will get without OUT. Our percentage of our share will go down.

I’m not using actual payouts, just easy figures to show.

Example: Big12 with 10 counting OU and UT 100 million whole/10 million each

Big12 with 8 minus OU and UT 48 million whole/ 6 million each

Big12 with 10 add(2) G5(say byu and bsu) 50 million whole/ 5 million each

And that’s being generous.

So be patient. the Power 4 will eventually expand and we will be in a better position, Adding a G5 school now could mean knocking a present P5 out later.

I don't like idea of BYU either but the best 4 are ...

BYU, UCF, Cincinnati, Memphis. If they want 14 then add Navy and Boise State.

I like the service academies, but I don't think they are interested, and if invite one, invite all especially Air Force, Colorado Springs is beautiful.
