You profess wanting the Pac 10 because of academics.

You stay in the Big 12 after being given all the power and money with the TV deal.

Congrats for playing the game perfectly.

I suggest a new cheer - Hook Em Whores!

They were foiled by their archrival and Texas A&M kind of flexed their muscle in all of this. And is it a done deal that the Aggies aren't going to the SEC?

1. They made it look like CU and Neb. were the reason for the Big12 falling apart when it was really them and their arrogance that started all of this.
2. They made it look like they were the reason the conference stayed together at 10 instead of totally dissapating. I think I heard UT called the 'linchpin' of the Big12 remaining intact in every report today when, in fact, aTm was the linchpin.

While they did fail in their ulitmate goal (moving the Big12 South teams to the Pac-## and continuing to be their daddy), they did win the PR battle if you only read the headlines and pay no attention to the stories behind the headlines.

They stand to make $25MM and will end up with their own TV network. And in your mind it was A&M that "flexed their muscle".

a monkey wrench in the horn's plans. Texas never expected a&m to set out on their own, so I guess a&m did flex their muscles, the only question is exactly how big their muscles are. Big enough apparently.

"The Big 12 sticking wasn't a miracle,'' said the source. "There have been a number of people who were involved -- a number of seriously key people -- unrelated to the conference who will never be known to have helped get things on track.''

meaning some big oil tycoon UT alum said " you move to another conference, i quit donatin' "

so texas stays......and with a lot of help from A&M..........aTm is no longer texas' ***** btw too...except scoreboard...

Again, Texas stands to make $25MM/yr. I think the Horn's plans worked out rather nicely.

I am basing my opinion on what can be seen on the surface. You have to admit thought that the aggies fit in the sec, whereas the horns fit in the pac10 (especially in their president's eyes).

were. But, I can't believe that this outcome was their first choice. Maybe down the road they leave the big12 and become independant?

I just can't believe that UT's grand plan was for A&M to say "screw you, we're going to the SEC" so that Texas could look good by keeping the conference together.

If it was, their plan worked miraculously well. Texas was going to get their money one way or the other- and yes, that part of their plan worked well, and if I understand ESPN correctly, they would not have been able to have their own network in the PAC-10, so that's a plus for them as well.

It may survive for another few years, another 10 years or maybe 20, but it's doomed eventually. You can't have a league where one team basically owns the league financially and have the rest of the teams stay content. Just wait until Texas does start up their own network and see how much the other teams in the league enjoy it when they have to not only work with the Big 12's TV deal but work around Texas's network constantly.

I know they've got a bigger TV deal than they had before, but they don't have as big a deal as they would have had if they'd been able to keep Nebraska and Colorado. They're basically only together now because they didn't have a real choice. Texas WAS NOT going to let A&M go to the SEC and this was they only way they were going to be able to stop them. But you've got to know Missouri is still desperately wanting to get a shot at the Big 10 (or even the SEC) and would jump in a heartbeat if they get the chance.

then the conference will survive. The other 7are happy to be there and will keep their mouths shut.

The SEC allows its schools tomake side TV deals and I don't hear State and Ole Miss bitching much. Why? because we'rejust gladto be in thebig leagues. Hell, if the SEC startedgiving Bama and UF a bigger cut than everybody else, our two schools would continue to sit there and take it.

Once Texas decided to keep the Big 12 together, A&M had no choice but to go along. Politically in Texas, they could not be seen as the school that broke up the Big 12. It was one thing to split with Texas when Texas was going to the PAC-16 and Baylor was going to get kicked to the curb no matter what happened, it's a whole different thing to be the one that kicks Baylor to the curb.

I have already heard two different ESPN radio shows call this move for expansion nothing but greed and "unbridled capitalism". As the dust settles on this, I imagine more and more of the main stream fans and media will see how Texas played the PAC10 vs the Big12 and left all these other teams scrambling just so they could make millions on top of their current millions. Texas has not taken a PR hit yet because the Southwest10 did not disolve. But I think the rest of the college football fans in this country see them as a egotistical pricks now. AD and conference commissioners want expansion and more money. College football fans want their tradition (conference) and their team to win.

Also, I am not sure what, if any thing can be done (free market, capitalism, and all) but I would not be surprised if the NCAA begins to take measures to place some reins on college football and TV money. Like put rules in place that conferences have to share revenue equally and give some back to the NCAA to spread to the lesser conferences, and etc. Again, I am no Lawyer. So, I don't know how or if that is legally possible but the results of this will be the NCAA stepping in some form or fashion.

With all that said though, Texas did what was best for Texas. In a deal that makes JR Ewing look like a saint, Texas helps themselves greatly as well as the other members of the Southwest10. If I am Texas, I would feel damn good about my spot in college football right now.

You are correct, our schools would have to sit there and take it, because we're Kansas, Kansas State, and Iowa State. We have no other option. If Alabama and/or Florida started getting a sweeter deal though, I can guarantee you LSU, Tennessee, Georgia, and Auburn would be open to considering offers from other leagues.
