Our rivals seemed to always resent how Sylvester Croom was deified by the media. He proved that he is indeed a great man today. He could have dragged us through a media firestorm, but he took the high road. I really appreciate that.

Although people on this board may never admit it, we are better than when he got here. The last six games of 2003 all looked like yesterday. We have at least been competitive enough from 2006-08 to think "well if we'd just scored a few more points we could've gone to bowl." There was nothing like that to say in 2003. Croom made us better, just not enough to get us to the next level. And he realized this and thankfully stepped aside.

I will never forget winning at Auburn. I will never forget beating Alabama twice in a row. I will never forget the Liberty Bowl win. Coach Croom, thanks for the memories, and thanks for stepping aside when it was time.

us a better offensive coordinator on his staff 3 years ago.He was too damn loyal to his old friend Willy Mac. We all need to be glad the Doc hired Greg Byrne. I'm so glad we don't have another year under Croom. He never took enough blame for his un- ability to be a real SEC head coach. I'm happy as hell he is history.

piss on his lazy *** and his recruiting classes full of diamonds in the rough. This deal ain`t gonna play out like UM and Nutt at all. I`m just glad he`s gone. Good ridance.

But the popular feeling about Croom on this board is that he is lazy, stupid and only concerned about the money. I never have thought any of those things defined him. He may be many things - prideful, stubborn, perhaps even unprepared, but I feel like the aforementioned characterizations were terribly untrue. I think he proved that today.</p>
