It was disappointing, the second of the season wasn’t fun. We need an inside guy who can defend and rebound. Watching Baylor killing us inside and offensive rebounding was awful.

I agree the season was a success. For whatever reason the team just could not hold it together the last few weeks of the season. We need more consistent defensive options, a true point guard, and better shooters. Off to the portal for prospects.

This sucks. Today is a disappointment but I will stand by this - the season was a success. I know a number of people disagree with this statement but will never take for granted tournament appearances.
I don’t understand people that expected us to win today after watching the last month of the season. And we were up against a much better coach. The writing was on the wall for today.

We did have a decent season in the best conference ever assembled. And Jans finally made a legitimate tourney appearance. There’s that, and it’s not insignificant.

It only hurt bad for people that actually thought we were going to win. When you get emotionally invested in MSU sports you're going to get hurt (sooner rather than later). I still do that with baseball sometime but my give a damn is broke for football and basketball.

So......what the heck happened after the game in Athens? The season just went way off the rails. Love birds break up? Got into some bad ganja? Already told by jans he is heading to xyz state university?

Didn’t make the field of 64. Don’t care if you or anybody else agrees with that, but that’s what making the tournament means to me.

The Field has been 68 since 2011 but whatever works for you man.

I personally believe the tournament starts at the Elite 8 because that’s how big the tournament was in the 50’s. If you lose in the Sweet 16 you might as well have been in the NIT***

This season ended up being pretty much what I expected once the roster was assembled. I did not think our portal haul elevated our ceiling much, just made us a different style of team. We added inconsistent players at their previous schools and that’s exactly what we got. Returning players improved in some cases (Hubbard and Murphy), didn’t really in other cases (Matthews and Jones).

We were a good team with fatal flaws. Not just one of them. And if we want to elevate, we’ve gotta get better on both sides of the ball.

All I was looking for this season was being comfortably in the tournament and not a bubble team. We made it, but if the season had been 2 weeks longer I'm not sure we would have.

Just disappointing down the stretch, especially on the defensive end.

People on this board have an over inflated opinion of what MSU basketball has historically been. The was absolutely a successful season.

Not only that, but from 2011 to 2022 no one on this board doubted that teams who lose in the First Four are part of the tournament. It wasn't until we had the opportunity to shit on our own team that some of our fans adopted that opinion.

Any time Mississippi State gets into the NCAAT, it is a good season.

This season was not a “success”
That’s a loser mentality
We LOST 6 out of the last 8 times we suited up.
We DID NOT make it out of the first round of the NCAA.
That’s a BS away to end a “good record”
season.
And that’s about it - we had a good record with a couple of good wins in December.
Beating ole miss a couple of times in basketball does not make the overall seasons worth a 17 without playing at a competitive level late in the year!

It didn’t hurt so bad because I knew it was coming. Season was pretty good until a month ago. Then it went to hell. Overall, ok but disappointing.

A participation trophy mentality right here!
Give the boy a capri sun and bag of chips to make him feel good that we made the tournament!

I would have felt better if Hubbard wasn't the only one to show up for today's game. He kept us competitive. Everyone else stumbled and bumbled their way and should be embarrassed. However, this team taught me to expect an L so they met my expectations.

Agreed. I was disappointed we didn't get a big home win in the regular season. Or win today. However We ran into a good program with a good coach today.

but.....Anytime State gets in the ncaa tournament, it's a good year.

It only hurt bad because in the last minute when we got it down to one we all got hope that we COULD win. Before that, I think most of us had no expectation of winning today. We didn't play that well today and still were right there at the end. In fact, if we had gotten the possession we should have had down one when there should have been a 5 sec call instead of the ref calling a bogus jump ball we absolutely could have won. Instead they got to keep the ball, we had to foul and they sink 2 free throws.

This was an acceptable season, not a successful one.

Success is measured against expectations, and this team was expected to better than bottom half of the SEC, an 8 seed, and another one and done in the tournament. All three were disappointing results

Jans went the FB equivalent of 7-5 (3-5) after starting out 5-1. He then lost to Baylor in the Liberty Bowl.
