That "left hand across the back" type of pass coverage

hasn't been called pass interference all year in conference games. It has been an accepted and expected coverage style. Yes, it is PI, but not in this conference.

So, B1G refs get the final revenge, and makes Herb Kirkstreet happy.

Yeah, but he damn near tackled him.

You can get away with it to an extent. That one was a no brainer.

Jim Delaney playing the loooooong game here at the Rose Bowl all along. Devious. Machiavellian.

Maybe it hasnt been called in this conference because this conference doesnt have the most consistent refs? Just a thought.

As for that call specifically, it wasnt just a hand on the back of the receiver. He ran into the receiver and bumped him off line while the receiver was laying out for the ball. He was blanketing the receiver.
It was clearly pass interference when the sideline camera angle replayed the penalty.

yes, that's the point. Conference officials have allowed bumping, battling, contact downfield, and 'hand on the back' all year long. Defenses have been conditioned to play this way. Then, inter-conference play with 3rd party refs, with a different set of expectations and standards put defenses playing a more physical brand of pass coverage at a considerable disadvantage.

you're right about the sideline camera angle. At game speed with the normal camera angle it didn't appear to me to be anything out of the ordinary, especially with less than a half-minute on the clock.

I think it's kind of like Duke in BB complaining about not getting the ticky-tac calls in tournament play. Calls that they've gotten all year. JJ Reddick driving the lane and flopping wildly comes to mind.

The NCAA needs to just take over officiating and do away with conference officials. Put them all under one roof, with one boss, and one way the games are called. Too much inconsistencies between the conferences as it is now.

Absolutely. For ALL sports. Basketball would also benefit tremendously from consistent across the board standards for officiating.
