Haven't you heard? Ole Miss is the only school in the country to never lose a recruiting battle. If a recruit commits elsewhere, then they obviously didn't want him, or he was way down on the coaches' infamous recruiting board. For the life of me I can't figure out why a school that hasn't done a 17ing thing since integration expects recruits to beg to play there. No matter how much they wish it were so, they are not, and never will be LSU, Bama, or any other powerhouse program. Yancy makes Joseph Goebbels seem like honest Abe.

side of it down. I'll give them this though, they try to hit every angle possible to be successful. They involve everyone. The media, boosters, politics, etc. It must suck to pull out all the stops the way they do and still not really be able to do much on the field.

That's fantastic news for MSU. Keep on being selective in your recruiting Houston. Keep on.

Interesting phenomenon. I'd think, given your coach's attitude towards recruiting, that y'all would think it's a good thing.

Like I said, keep on turning away Dandy Dozen players. Just makes them that much easier for us to get. I have no problem with that at all.

that both MSU and OM have passed on. Steve McNair Jr, due to grades and Nick Parker due to the fact that he may not be an SEC back. So it's not a bold face lie, just a stretch of the truth. Also, I don't believe Ole Miss has actively pursued Nick Griffin which I believe was a mistake on their part.

But obviously to anyone with a brain, both schools would love to have: Robinson, Sanders, Johnson, Thompson, Martin, Carr, Wells, Eulls, and Dickson.

resulted in a pretty good recruting class, better than MSU's. In light of that, I'd say both sides have been successful -- Croomullen last year in Mississippi, Nutt in both Mississippi and beyond. Still trying to figure out why this is such a big deal. Anyone with a substantive answer? You've got so much more to taunt us with. Successful recruiting is not among them.

The only reason McNair is even on the Dandy Dozen list is because is his father got the air let out of him 2 weeks before the list came out. Parker I think could find a place on D in the SEC, but I doubt he'll ever be an SEC caliber RB.

MSU's class was ranked 1 spot higher than Mississippi's was, not that that's any real difference at all but Mississippi's class certainly wasn't ranked higher. The only thing I was doing was mocking Nutt's obvious lie that he's turning away the best players in Mississippi.

Your class last year was not bette than ours. Look at the enrolled rankings. You can't count all 40 players you signed, and look at the guys that contributed as freshman for us versus the guys that contributed for yall.

why someone like you, so proud of Ole Miss, so non-threatened by our peckerhead little football program, would be trolling around on a State message board at ten o'clock at night, getting your feathers ruffled by our comments on your recruiting class. And then after reading this post, I realized the answer to my question:

You're really Yancy.

So sing on, sister. Ole Miss recruiting is, has been, and always will be AWESOME!

oh yeah...17th vs 19th. Wow! Soooo much better. And that tiny % "better" is only due to the fact that nutt-sack counted 37 players towards his class and we only counted 27. Our average "stars" (since you like to go by recrooting services...BS anyway) are waaaaaaaaaaaay higher than yours (using your type of scale). I'll take our 2009 class over yours any day.

really, stop defending Yancy 17ing Porter, and please stop drinking his kool-aid. If a dandy dozen kid wants to play for UM, they'll have a spot. Quit dreaming.

And the day I have 1500+ post on BAFOOM is the day I'll eat a bullet for breakfast. If you can't offer anything intelligent, just keep to your own board.

It's the thing that will tilt the scale over the next several years. UM simply can't recruit superior classes based on out-of-state talent year in and year out. They didn't do it last year, and they won't do it in the future with Nutt.

Our strategy is to get the best we can out of an under-recruited state and cherry pick out-of-state. It's like winning your base plus the independents in politics. If you can reduce the cost of a large portion of what you need to win, you can spend more on the portion that will put you over the top.

folks had OM higher in enrolled rankings. I agree that it's as much as makes no matter, and was really taking issue with y'all making such a huge deal out of this when there are many, many other things you could ridicule us for during the Mullen era (brief as it's been). Recruiting is not one of them. If Mullen gets a bucnh of Miss. guys and has a top 25 class and Nutt does like he did last year and cherry picks some Miss. guys and throws in others from around the country -- why do you give a 17. You have a good class too.

we've decided to not sign any recruits this year.

It's all part of the plan.

Nothing to see here.

I pay more attention to the other offers that the recruit has. We have several commits and players with "high interest" that are 2 or 3 star players according to the ranking services. Many of these same players have offers from several big-time schools. When we land the player(s) instead of Bama, Georgia, Florida State, etc. why should I care about his star ranking? If he's good enough to hold legitimate offers from those programs, then I will gladly welcome him into the MSU family. I have an idea that Mullen knows what he's doing in player evaluations. He's got a pretty good track record.

the two classes were similar. But to say that yours was clearly ahead of ours isn't accurate. Signing day rankings and enrollment rankings were both similar, but we had 13 signees that came in and contributed while you guys had 8. Some of that was due to a lack of talent on our roster, and some was due to the fact that ya'll had a **** ton of players grey shirt, and some that never made it, and some that dropped out. I don't give a rats *** how Nutt recruits, because whatever he is doing isn't working in state, which is where we are trying to get most of our recruits.

and i think the talent of ms will really shine. im not saying we dont need out of state guys but i really think MS has alot of talent and if you get the best of a couple of years you will have a great team. That and alot of the best might not know how to swim so keep your boat. we will just let them drive

I really hate recruiting. It is endless bs to talk smack about recruiting players. No one knows who will pan out and who will not. We go through the same crap every year. Both are good schools and I hope both do well in recruiting. Personally I am sick of both programs being looked down upon by other SEC schools.

if there's a discussion at the end of the players freshman year about recruiting i would argue we know a good bit about how well each class has panned out excepting redshirts. otherwise i totally agree with you.

Because, obviously, the rankings by these services are soooooo exact.

That's why Jesse Grandy (2-star), Joel Kight (2-star), Shackelford (3-star), Rodney Scott (3-star), Bumphis (3-star), etc etc etc all got more playing time than Pat Patterson (5-star) this year.

The rankings aren't exact.

I happen to think that both Ole Miss and MSU had good classes in 2009...not great...but good. Both will have substantial contributions next year.

Scout counts only your Top 25 signees. Rivals counts only your Top 20 signees. I believe Scout simply just has a point value assigned to each recruit, and they add those up. Rivals has a more complicated formula involving star average and some other factors. Regardless, both sites have ways to account for oversigning, so if you buy into class rankings, our signing 37 players was not the reason the class was ranked where it was.

You're obviously a rankings junkie, and since you brought it up, here are the Rivals enrolled rankings (Ole Miss No. 20, MSU No. 22):
Rivals

And here are the Scout enrolled rankings (MSU No. 16, Ole Miss No. 17):
Scout

So our enrolled ranking on both sites wasn't a whole lot different than the signing day ranking, and neither was yours. And yes you probably had more freshmen contributing this year in bigger roles, partially because you didn't have as many seniors contributing as we did. We were able to redshirt a good number of players that could've come in and played this year if needed.

I don't buy those class rankings for a number of reasons, but I do feel like we had a very solid class this year based on what they did on the field and in practice this year. For the record, I think you had a very good class as well this past year. If you buy into rankings though, you have to say they were pretty equal. We'll see in a few years though.

and all rankings aside, I like our class much better than Mississippi's.......

and I said it all last year, Bumphis is 10 times the football player Patterson is.....better skills, more athletic, faster, smarter, and a better attitude....I was so glad he didnt sign with us.....

but I dont think there is much difference between the 21st and 25th ranked classes. However, there is a huge difference between the 5th ranked class and the 25th.

Look at OM's talent level the last couple years compared to MSU, there obviously is some merit behind the rankings.

As far as the quote, I'm a bit confused. Is that Yancy saying they only were taking the ones they're interested in, or is that Carlos Thompson referring to himself in the 3rd person?

...nobody in this thread asks the obvious question: Why does Carlos fit the program while the other DD players don't?

Please somebody fill us in on what magic Carlos possesses.
