Fined us $25,000 for cowbells:

MISSISSIPPI STATE FINED $25,000 FOR VIOLATION OF ARTIFICIAL NOISEMAKER POLICY
BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The Southeastern Conference has imposed a $25,000 fine upon Mississippi State University for violation of the SEC’s Artificial Noisemaker Policy during the 2013 football season, SEC Commissioner Mike Slive announced on Friday.
The SEC approved the use of artificial noisemakers “at football contests played on the campus of an institution with a traditional institutional noise maker” in 2010. The policy states an institution shall submit to the Commissioner an annual use plan explaining how traditional institutional noise makers shall be governed to ensure compliance with SEC Bylaw 30.22.1.5.
According to the bylaw, violations “shall be evaluated following the season for the imposition of fines as follows: 1st offense: an institutional fine of $5,000; 2nd offense: an institutional fine of up to $25,000; 3rd or subsequent offense: an institutional fine of up to $50,000.”
“By virtue of the current legislation, the conference has recognized this long-standing tradition at Mississippi State,” said SEC commissioner Mike Slive. “It should be noted, however, that continued violation of the policy could lead not only to substantially higher financial penalties for the institution, but also to a review of the existing legislation concerning artificial noisemakers.”
Mississippi State was last cited for violation of the current policy following the 2010 season.

And people bitched about Stricklin sending the ring responsibly message out before the Egg Bowl. It didn't take a genius to figure out the reason he sent that message.

It's in the rules. I'm not allowed to post "slive" unless "*******" is within a three word proximity.

To be honest, this was all a lot easier when the damn things were banned. We just ignored the ban, you didn't have to worry about then to ring and when not to ring, and there were no fines(that I recall).

Pretty sure it's a 3 year basis -- so just one game was actually violated this year -- to make our 2nd overall since the compromise was implemented...

25K to let 50K+ ring cowbells all season sounds like a great deal to me....

Can we do this every year Mike? Hell if we just asked everyone for a $2-$5 charge added to your tickets FOR THE SEASON we could pay this fine off every year and then some. LETS MAKE A DEAL!

Keep ringing no matter what. Its worth it.

Read a little more on it. 1st offense was 2010, this was 2nd offense up to 25K.

3rd offense up to 50K and then maybe another vote to about changing the rules on our bells. Ring at the right time ******** is the bottom line.

** Sounds like it was just 1.8 games.

My guess is that, given the "up to" language, they said, "Eh, you violated it--and in more than one game--but not too bad and you're sort of trying...so...um, let's call it $25,000."

Well, the next fine is up to 50K, then open to vote on changing the cowbell rules. Yes, so by all means keep on ringing them and costing the school a ton of money and a chance that we won't be able to bring cowbells in games anymore. Keep ringing them dumbasses. Makes perfect sense to me

Not too far fetched.

More and more people disregarded the rule game by game. Not too surprising. Scott will have to ride us about it more next year. People gotta realize either play by the rules or die by the rules. Got a few that sit around me that have no respect for the rule.

But, still we're discriminated against. They still pipe crowd noise all over Neyland in Knoxville. Louder considerably.

I think the next thing we have to do is have security taking the stupid one's bells and tagging them to get when the game is over. If they want to act like children, then treat them that way. If its a drunk arrogant ***, arrest him and embarrass him. This happens a few times, the ringing right will work. There are always gonna be billy bob badasses that think they can do whatever the 17 they want. Those are the ones that need to be made examples of.

50K to have a stadium full ring them all season? Can I take that deal now also?

Peanuts chief. So worth it the people who look like "dumb asses" are the ones not ringing them when a big time opponent has a third and short or during a goal line stand.

aGAIN.... even if they are banned it will be like it was before they were "unbanned". They will be in the stadium and will be rung regardless what any blue haired, down in front, scared of everything types think.

Here endith the lesson.

He also fined the pukes in oxford $25k for charging the field after LUS.

And Auburn got fined just $5,000 for over half the crowd charging the field after the Bama game, while their Jumbotron played "Celebration", along with constant replays of the kick return (which, IMHO, encouraged people to storm the field and stay there awhile). UMiss got fined more because they had a similar violation after last year's Egg Bowl, but, seriously, Auburn made no attempt to stop the crowd rush, or to get fans off the field while they were there.

And while I'm on an Auburn rant....I was at the Bama game. Auburn likes to play the intro to "Crazy Train" during timeouts. They were playing it after Auburn called timeout to get Chris Davis in position to return the last second Fieldgoal. They kept playing it - very loudly - right up until a split second before Bama snapped the ball. Now, I seriously don't think it had any impact on the kick attempt, but it was a blatant violation to be playing loud music after the teams had lined up. They should be fined for that, as well.

OR the SEC imposes a ban and a harsh fine structure, forcing the university to police cowbells more than they did during the previous ban. And then no one would get to ring them.

All of you that are saying you'll "bring'em and ring'em no matter what the rule is" need to remember one thing.

The current rule came to be after the compromise was reached. Had it not been for that compromise, the SEC would still be fining us and MSU would essentially be forced to remove your bell and/or you. And no matter what you think, that will happen.

This is what it will resort to again if you refuse to be reasonable about the current rule.

get your old *** up and cheer and people wouldn't ring the cowbells to make noise on third down. I think the cowbells have hindered our fan base in the long run because it made our fans lazy as ****. It seems most our fans think it's a chore to yell and clap when they use to could sit on their fat asses and ring a cowbell to make noise. Get the 17 up and cheer and that would keep people from ringing their damn cowbell

So, you gonna help write the checks? Say they fine us for 3 games next season. Is 150K still chump change? You are one of the billy bob badasses I was talking about earlier. You are one that's gonna do what you want regardless of rules in place. You should be embarrassed not proud that you helped cost our school 25K

This. Slive will get pissed off that we're not following the compromise

OR the SEC imposes a ban and a harsh fine structure, forcing the university to police cowbells more than they did during the previous ban. And then no one would get to ring them.
And will ban them again, and then fine the university $2 million per game if we ring them or something ridiculous like that. Or take away some of the SEC bowl money we are due. Slive is an *******. He would do this. So stadium security will actually check for bells, will confiscate all of them and no one will get to ring them at games again.

Doesn't move me an inch... the whole agreement is tongue in cheek...

The SEC knows it, we know it, everyone knows it. Like its been said.. until we start beating the big boys on a regular basis the SEC isn't going to take poor ol' Miss State's cowbells away.

There will always be cowbells ringing in Davis Wade on third and short and at the goal line and I hope I never see the day they don't. Even if they are banned and there is a secret cowbell police, like some of you think will happen, I will be one of the ones ringing it all game every game.

it wouldn't be a hard thing for sheriff's or security to do because it's only a handful of jakelegs that are doing it. Warn them once and when they do it again, either take the bell and tag it for pick up after the game or excort them out. ONce that's done a few times, this will stop. It'll piss off the arrogant sob's doing it but follow the freaking rule and it won't happen.

If you are very fortunate you will be one of those "blue hairs" some day very soon. It's a never ending cycle---the circle of life. You likely will be a rule follower by then and will understand that we have to follow rules or suffer consequences. I wish you well in your journey.

I know whats best for ME" sound about right? Continue to be an *** at games. It's your right to be an ***. I hope Stricklin does implement something to help EDUCATE the ones like you.
