The 2020 Corvette Uses GPS and Hydraulics to Automatically Lift the Car Over Speed Bumps

...and it is mid-engine...

...and its MSRP is <$60K.

The 2020 Chevrolet Corvette has a lot going for it between the mid-engine configuration, the 495 horsepower V8, the eight-speed dual-clutch transmission, and, of course, the price. But one feature worth talking about is the hydraulically-actuated front suspension lift.

We don’t know a ton about this feature, but what we do know is that the front suspension—a short/long arm (SLA) double wishbone setup that eschews the old cars leaf spring design for coils—will offer a hydraulic “front suspension lift,” which Chevrolet says will raise the car’s ground clearance by 1.6 inches in just 2.8 seconds.

This, Chevy says in its press release, can protect the vehicle from speed bumps, potholes, steep grades, curbs, and other obstacles, and will function at up to 24 MPH.

Currently have a C7 Z06. Been watching the C8 developments closely. Really impressed with it. Not cheap, but still an incredible value for a car of its capabilities.

I was figuring $100K+. $60K is ridiculous (ly low) though I doubt many go for that. Wonder what dealers' mark up over MSRP will be? $10K? $20K?

I’ve always raced Ford Fox-Body Mustangs, both road and drag. I have had a ton of those s**t boxes. Still do.

That said I’ve really like the Corvette offerings the last two decades and the C7 Z06s are a secret Ford guy crush of mine. Not sure about this mid-engine business but it looks like it’s working out nicely.

My advice to anyone who has the extra $ is wait for the C8 Z06. It is going to be an absolutely insane car. However, anyone who thought they could not afford a C7Z06 can get incredible deals on them now because there are a ton on lots that dealers need to get rid of.

90+ days of inventory in the field on the C7 across all models, and they are building 93 more a day through mid-September @ GMBG, so there should definitely be plenty to pick from. Z06/ZR1 is about 5-10% of that, give or take, but there should be quite a few around.

One of them is definitely spoken for though - https://www.motor1.com/news/357282/final-c7-corvette-auction-price/

Best comment I have seen on the C8 so far was "the front end looks like a mid-2000s Ferrari ate too much". Personally, I think it looks like a Camaro and a Ferrari got drunk at a car show and had a love child.

The C8 will also be the first Corvette with a factory available right hand drive model built for export (as a 2021 model next year), so they definitely have big expectations for it.

What it doesn't have: a manual transmission.

The 2020 Corvette Stingray will get an eight-speed dual-clutch transmission that "provides lightning-fast shifts and excellent power transfer," Chevrolet said in a statement.

It's paired with an "electronic transmission range selector," which eliminates the mechanical connection between the shift stick and the transmission. It also incorporates paddle shifters for drivers who want to choose their own gear.

But a dual-clutch transmission is ultimately a manual. You don't need to fumble for the clutch and use your hands to switch gears to drive the car.

No.

Look I think 1. The C8 is awesome and one incredible combo of performance and value 2. DCTs have incredible merit and I’ll certainly add one or more to the stable at some point

....but it’s not a manual. 3 pedals, period.

Not about .00003 second shifts, and alleged car people that don’t get it just don’t get it.

The most bad *** car I ever had was a 2003 trans am. It had the ls1 which had 320 hp. When you hit 65 it would automatically drop 2 inches to the ground for speed control. I’d kill to own that corvette. I think my favorite corvette is the late 90s early 2000s.

I have a C6 and feel like I'm a century behind...
Well I guess that means I’m in the Middle Ages. I know people in BG, and the mid engine, Euro design had long been rumored, and is now realized. Screw it, I like mine. It still gets comments everywhere I go. It is after all a Corvette. Screw your pickup. Oh wait I have one of those to. You won’t like the it though it’s a ‘99 Tacoma.

Not a big fan of the C4 but I literally like every other model.

Chevy has done a great job on the line over the years... IMHO.

Sounds good.....but dang, did you have to lower it? I never understood the reasoning behind lowering trucks so much. By design.....by purpose.....a truck is meant to haul and pull cargo..... It’s like trying to make a football WR out of an OG.

A few more interesting things about the new Vette.

1. The engine was placed very low in the bay. The valve covers are actually lower than the back tires. It’s going to have a crazy low CoG......with balance.

2. For the first time ever it has coil over rear suspension instead of leaf springs. Handling is likely to improve quite a bit more.

3. They designed it so that it can still carry 2 golf bags behind the engine......and a small bag and cooler up front. Reminds me of the design story yrs ago where the GM CEO yrs ago rejected a concept car because it couldn’t hold a set of clubs.

I think everything looks better lowered. This one isn't going to be doing too much work, I've got a 4wd for that, it's just built to haul ***. Lol.

Right, but take the same amount of money you put into your truck and put in an average passenger car. The car will smoke the truck easily.......it'll be faster in a straight line......it'll handle waaaaaaaaaay better........and it'll do it with hauling more people.....hence "more ***."

....and that's the average passenger car........imagine if you started with something that is designed to be quick in the first place.

Do you really? I would think that someone that really likes trucks would go the other direction. Instead of taking a vehicle......minimizing it's strengths and trying to improve it's weaknesses even though it has hard limitations.......a real truck lover would further improve upon the strengths and not worry as much about the weaknesses.

Lol. I'm just messing with you. It's certainly within your right to do whatever makes you feel good. So, rock on.
