The true Freshman from that season have one more season. Is that correct? If correct, I am guessing if they redshirted during that period, they would have two.

2020 season one. Did not count.
2021 season two
2022 season three
2023 season four
2024 will be season five.

I guess someone could have played in 2020 which did not count & then redshirted in one of 21, 22, 23, or 24 and would still have another year.

Yeah, 2020 didn’t count against eligibility if they played. And they could definitely redshirt in a different year. That’s how we had so many 6th year guys this year. They redshirted in 2018, then played 5 years - 19, 20, 21, 22, 23. Some of them even played in 2018, that’s when they started the rule that freshmen could play up to 4 games and still redshirt

I think 2025 is the absolute last season with the COVID players. That’s if they played in 2020, redshirted in 2021 and then played four more seasons.

It just means that 2020 didn’t count at all. It’s as if it never happened. You have 6 to play 4. So if you didn’t play at all in 2020 but played all of 21,22,23. You have 1 more year.

“He has a Covid year” is the dumbest thing we ever started saying.

I think ESPN started. So, I guess we have to consider the source.

Coming up with dumber things sounds like a good thread for DS to start in the doldrums of summer when baseball is over and media days are about the only other thing to talk about.
