& now I got to get a copy of Willie Morris's book on the Dupree recruitment.

Seems like Dupree is fine w/ his life & did what he needed to do to end his career when he played for the Rams

but, I think college recruiting is disgusting (& I get this from my dad), the education that you will get for free is inducement enough to choose a college, but the irony of this Cam Newton soap opera occurring @ the same time as the airing of the Dupree story is just so ironic.

I love, love, love college football, but this recruiting **** is out of hand today, & I can't believe how out of hand it was back then.........but you know what, I want to win too.

It just makes me wonder how many lives are ruined by these shenanigans.

& I know I am being a bit of the holier than now crowd thinking the education a athlete can get is worth more than any thing else, but it just makes me wonder what would have happened if Dupree had been allowed to make his own decision.

I think Walter Payton was the best there ever was, but now I wonder after watching that documentary.

Lastly, I have always been a Barry Switzer fan from a distance, but after watching that documentary, his stock dropped in my book......alot. Best athlete on your team & he doesn't want to play him b/c he was a freshman, but then you gotta wonder if he was riding him to try to make sure he was the best ever. who knows. All I can say is DAMN Switzer has a nice ring collection.

I have ever seen. I agree about the recruiting biz these days. If Tom Goode was telling Warner Alford it could take 100-150 grand to get Dupree 25 years ago, then Cam went pretty cheap if you ask me. It is totally out of control and I don't see how coaches these days ever sleep with all the crap that has to be dealt with outside of the day to day operations of a major program. Hell, 2-3 mil a year probably isn't worth it. But I would damn sure give it a go for a couple of years.

he did what any other coach in that day would have done to him outside of going to USM where he would have been treated like a god. You try to humble a guy before you build him up, and I honestly think that was what he was trying to do. The blaming him for the Fiesta Bowl thing was a little over the top though.
