They were getting 5 regardless as the ACC is rated as the #1 conference in RPI. The only surprise is that Virginia Tech slipped past Clemson (not a surprise in retrospect considering how they played recently). I wouldn't be surprised to see 4 ACC teams get national seeds.

They earned it by doing the work in the nonconference to build up all of their RPIs. If Arkansas and others hadn't dropped the ball outside of the SEC they could've been our 5th host.

RPI wise the ACC was stronger this year

4 of top 8
6 of top 13
8 of top 21

Clemson arguably got shafted by not getting a 6th spot. KSU probably got a pity host spot based on proximity to top RPI 16, need for a midwest host and need for a Big 12 host.
