Mullen has the words "Heisman" and "State QB" mentioned together

ESPN writer Edward Asschapped or however you spell it, has Chris Relf listed as an "off-the-radar" Heisman candidate

Chris Relf, QB, Mississippi State: Relf is probably the most athletic quarterback in the SEC. He passed for 1,789 yards and 13 touchdowns, while rushing for 713 yards and five more scores. Relf ended the 2010 season with a lot of passing momentum by throwing for more than 200 yards in each of his last three games, after passing for more than 200 yards just once before that. The Bulldogs are a trendy pick in the West and Relf is the guy who will put a lot of the offense on his shoulders. If he can keep improving as a passer, he'll put up good numbers with the wealth of receiving talent around him.

Hear that groan? It's the Tyler Russell faction and Mississippi Bear fans deflating at the same time

I get it. You were right in saying that Tyler Russell isn't ready to start and a lot of the ones who wanted him to start were premature in their assumptions, but why do you keep bringing it up like you're faulting the kid?

"Tyler Russell faction" ? Are you actually saying there are MSU people who would rather play Russell than Relf even in light of Relf`s success ?

my track record is pretty damn good on all that. I'm not the one saying Ralph is a possible Heisman candidate.

What did I say last season? We would go 8-4, we would score 30 a game (we scored 29), and that we wouldnt miss Dixon- and we really didnt.

This season? I think we win 8-10 games (I havent done the predictions yet), Ralph has a great season, and will live up to expectations because of our coaching and strength staff.

"Are you actually saying there are MSU people who would rather play Russell than Relf even in light of Relf`s success ?"

yes. They are far fewer in number- but they still exist.

I don't know how many of these writers followed the Bulldogs all of last year, but it's obvious that they sure as hell paid attention on New Year's Day and were very impressed. I guess I'm used to them saying something along the lines that any successful season was just a fluke and that we'd reclaim our rightful spot in the SEC cellar the following year. To have these guys jumping on the bandwagon instead is awesome.

One thing's for sure though. If Mullen wants to keep moving up the coaching hierarchy, this is an extremely critical season for him because all eyes will be on him.

hard for the rest of us to understand ... we are glad that Relf has progressed to the point where he is today but why would you want another bulldog to perform poorly only to confirm your previous speculation ? I know you are on top of MSU athletics and contribute from time to time with some pretty reasonable thoughts and others here do quite a bit of speculating on our own.....but understand that this isn't 17'n Jeopardy with a grand prize waiting at the end ... I know for FACT that several players read this board and all you do is destroy their morale ...why don't you jump aboard the SUPPORT wagon and quit working against everyone else because nobody here cares much if you were right or wrong

I was one of those hoping TR would step up. We have not had a pure passing QB since Dave Marler. Ralph was an athlete but rougher than a Greene County dirt road. Croom let Ralph founder for two years and it did not appear that he would pan out as a QB. TR had potential coming out of HS. But, Mullen took Ralph and turned him into a serviceable QB. The light went on in Ralph's head over the summer of 2010 and he developed way more than anyone could predict.
If/when the light goes on for TR, he will be a really good QB for us. But he is going to have Little Farve and Dak Prescott pushing him.

Ralph has done better than anyone (including you, Carnac) could have predicted. The reason is coaching. I am glad to see that. But without a decent coaching up, he would still be what he was in Croom's years---standing on the sideline holding his headgear.........

He said last year Russell wasn't ready, and that Relf was currently the better Q. He had people jump his case for that. Surely you have been around long enough to know that when he is right, he is going to make sure that everyone who disagreed with him knows about it don't you?

there is no delight in Russell's struggle- there is delight in the fact that things are goingpretty much the way I said they would. Dont jump my *** when I make predictions and say things, and then when those exact things come true, get mad when I stick it back in your face. If you are going to call me out and raisehell at me for saying stuff, you got to be able to take it when it comes back around.

"I know for FACT that several players read this board and all you do is destroy their morale"

They need to toughen up and do a better job. Nobody gets ripped that is producing and getting the job done.

"quit working against everyone else because nobody here cares much if you were right or wrong"

part of the popularity of this site has been built on me being right or wrong- the page views on my threads have proven that time and again - ****, if the The Recruiter makesthe Sweet 16 this March, this site will crash from people coming at me- people do care, and you know they care

but those young players who read your crap take it personally...and I dont want to lose out on another CJ just because you like to stroke your ego ... not blaming you for CJ...but that issimiliar to what I'm talking about....and yeah, I know everyone likes a target and thank you for providing that for this board...my point is this, the negative things you write get read by a lot of the players and regardless if you think it helps them in their developement or not, I assure you it doesn't help their morale. I don't mind getting jumped on here, most of the time it's just in good fun, but players dont think that way......oh yeah, ..... you are right about one thing - I do enjoy the stimulus that you provide here

The people who think Russell isn't the heir-apparent to this team and won't pan out are only kidding themselves. He will be better than Relf when he leaves State, and I am not saying that as a knock against Ref. It's just true. When Russell has time, he can kill you from the pocket. Our lone TD against LSU, who put the team in position? It wasn't Relf, as good as he has become........

If he had gone to Houston Cougars, he'd have thrown for 20K yards and won multiple Hiesman's

that you think you are a major reason SPS iss successful does make you a douche, and the fact that you think it's "the truth" only validates that buddy. SPS was here before you and it'll be here after you. Look I wasright there in the whole "play Relf" argument last year, but I'm not going to sit there and post it every chanceI can. It's pointless and stupid.

I'm sure it didn't succeed because he didn't want it to. It couldn't have been any other reason.
