and that is being generous. What do all of these recruits from bear strongholds and family ties do? The way their recruiting has gone this year and the looming season next year, things might get crazy.

My thought is is that the Right Rev. lost control and their future is brighter...damn, but I have a hard time finding more than three wins for them next year.

Remember when they were gonna win 6 games this past year? BYU, no problem. La Tech is another win. Egg Bowl is a toss-up. And then there's Kentucky... You get my point. Where are their 5 wins gonna come from? That schedule is brutal and they arguably have even less talent next year.

But 2014 looks like their only chance in that time to have a decent season in the next4 years for sure. And that's if Bucky turns out to be a good hire.

our rivals and I'm not getting on your case, but who cares? They blow. It's time for our program to get past them. We have a long way to go to catch Alabama and LSU, but we need to start setting our sites on Auburn and Arkansas. The bears are no longer relevant.

the majority of the top athletes realize this now. We are only going up as a program. They blow and have a girls basketball coach leading the way.

It's time to move beyond Ole Miss boys. They aren't a factor anymore, and they won't be for a while. We need to set our sights on the Auburn's and South Carolinas and Tennessee's of the SEC now, aka the mid-tier programs. I know. I know. Auburn won a NC year before last and USC won ten (11?) last year.

I know this, but they're still mid-tier in this conference now. Without Cam, Auburn would have been a 7-8 win team in 2010. SC caught some breaks from the East being trash. That loss to Auburn proved that. And now that Mazahn is gone, Chiz has to sink or swim on his own. This year will tell a tale on that. If we can't beat them this year at the crib, you might as well hang it up.

We've to move beyond Ole Miss.

Jackie used to talk about the days when we wouldn't be talking about the Reb's anymore but would be focused on the big boys. Well, he never got there but it looks like the Yankee is poised to do it.

because I start having flashbacks to all the other times I was optimistic about MSU's future. Like last year (TEN WINS!). It's going to take two or three more consecutive winning seasons to kill that particular anxiety streak.

When is Dan going to beat a Top 20 team? He hasn't yet.. And we should have beaten SC or Auburn this past year..
The Bears will be spending some money in 2013 for players, trust me, we can't forget about them or they will rack up..

and losses. I want to be competitive and I want to have a chance to win against anybody we play every time we suit up. I think we are headed in that direction.

there are two extended stretches in the UM-MSU series, one for each team, where onetotally dominated the other. It could happen again. UM had their chance to start one during JWS' demise and the Croom years. It didn't work out for them. We have a chance to start one now I think. The odds are stacked against it of course but we do have a start on one. The challenge is to keep the momentum IN STATE. I agree we have to set our sights higher but you can't forget the main opposition trying to tear down the instate base. Keep that intact and the lows aren't as low and you can reach higher during the highs.

If they win the OOC games they are supposed to i.e. Central Ark, UTEP and Tulane and beat Vandy (thats a big IF), you get 4. If they drop an early OOC game like UTEP at home in the second week of the season, you might not see a single OM fan at VHS the rest of the season.

I am going with 3-11 and 0-8 in the SEC, aGAIN.

And I agree with coach66 on this. We are on the verge of being competitive against just about everyone on our schedule. Thats progress.

is going to wind up as the longest down cycle either of us has had since the 1960s. We may have a chance to make a fundamental change in the rivalry. Because I don't see them getting any better for several years. They may be decent by 2014, but then they're going to be decimated by seniors leaving with few experienced players to replace them.

We need to get the hay in the barn while the getting is good. Ole Miss is so far in the weeds it will take them a long time to get back on track. Especially with their lack of leadership in the Athletics Dept. At some point Mullen will probably leave or retire and the cycle will start over. But if he can stick it out until Freeze is run out of town in Oxford he can run this State for years, as long as he wants to stick around in Starkville.

And after this class Freeze is putting together I think he's got 3 years max, probably 2. If Ole Miss folks were more patient than he might get more time, but a new AD is not going to want to have someone else's pick hanging around his neck.

When we beat Auburn next year at home, what is going to be next party line for the Bears?

- Mullen cannot recruit
- Mullen to Minnesota
- Mullen is a scientologist
- Mullen to Florida
- Mullen cannot close the deal in Jan/Feb
- Mullen to Miami
- Mullen cannot beat anyone from the west
- Mullen to Penn State

in 2013. Basically, a mediocre team can get to 6 wins with some luck in scheduling. If they get 4 OOC wins, then get lucky and get an easy team to play against from the east. For example this year, how good of a team would it take to beat Ole Miss, UK, UT, and Vandy in the SEC? It's a little harder in the west right now, but basically they need to get 4 OOC wins and get 2 out of 3 against MSU, Vandy, and hopefully for them a weak east opponent.

But if they have a good team on their OOC and don't get lucky with their second east opponent, Freeze will have to be a miracle worker for 2013 to be a bowl season.

In 2013 they have to go to Texas and in 2014 they open with Boise State...
Not looking good for the Bears anytime soon..

Then of course they'll have 6 SEC West games, plus presumably Vandy and one more from the East. It's going to be hard for them to get to 6 wins with a ceiling of 3 non-conference wins. I know Texas has been down the last couple of years, but I saw them play late this season. They're playing a LOT of talented freshmen and sophmores. They're going to be good again real soon, like this fall.

but you do remember that we only had ONE winning season between 2001 to 2009. That's one winning season in NINE years. The Bears still have a ways to go to top that. I do agree though that we have an excellent opportunity to gain an even stronger foothold in the state and become that much more attractive to out of state players while they are floundering so I hope we don't squander the opportunity.

They've only had 2 winning seasons in 8 years and I think they're almost a cinch to post losing records for at least the next 2 years. It's not quite as bad as our 2001-2008 stretch yet, but it looks like it will be before it's over.

main reasons we sucked the past decade plaus, for the most part were 1) coaching 2) scheduling.

Those are no longer a problem. Now I'm not suggesting we are about to turn into Alabama/LSU, but I don't see us going back to the level we were for most of 2000's (with our current staff).
