I kept looking at the field knowing that I was going to see yellow somewhere.... Probably my best memory at DWS.

The only nice thing I have in my living room, other than my TV, is a framed picture of that play (the same one that's hanging in the Union). One of the best moments of my life as a State fan.

Never been able to find anything to match the awesomeness of AJ highstepping into the endzone to put up.

A play I will never forget. AJ is what he is, but he'll always hold a special place in my life... haha. Banks would be up there as well if we had just won the game.

I'll remember it because I had given my tix to my brother in law and his two sons. My dad was in the hospital at the time, so we watched it there. Before the play, I told my dad: "Wouldn't it be nice to get a pick-6 here?"

with CJ Sirmones for me.

When that play against Bama happened, I was jumping at least three feet in the air. I was getting some altitude on that play.

I knew we had the TD when I didn't see any flags (which was a miracle considering this was Alabama) and the fact that the guy chasing AJ had two large knee braces on.

not only because it was one of the best times I've ever had, but because I can still feel the pain of being tackled in the stands! My best friend's dad (whom we lovingly call Pineapple because he's from Hawaii) was so excited he literally took me down to the bleachers in a bear hug! Damn, I love that man and that great Dawg memory. Thanks for the video and the smile.

I nearly fell out of my chair. I was feeling lucky that I didn't go into cardiac arrest after how loud that **** was.

A.J.'s interception definitely the more memorable of the two. Banks' might be if we beat Florida. I don't know what it was but when Johnson took it back against Alabama I knew we were going to win. And damn the whiskey showers during that were oh so refreshing. When Banks took it back against Florida I just didn't have that gut feeling like I did previously before. The hope was there but it wasn't burning like it was against Bama.

One other thing that made the Bama pick that much better was the personal hatred towards John Parker Wilson and Saban. Wilson got too much exposure for being a 'good QB' when in reality we all knew how ****** he was at QB. It was great seeing Titus Brown destroying him and showing everyone how big of a ***** he was.

had played at Madison Central instead of Hoover, they would have seen how ****** he was to.

We love our homeboys in the South. I think that's one reason why we have so many people that think that Tyler Russell can possibly beat out Cameron Newton.

I see what you are getting at and I am pretty sure we won't have to worry about getting trapped in that kind of situation under Mullen. I hope Tyler Russell does live up to the hype but if he doesn't then he sure as hell doesn't need to be playing if we have a better QB on the roster. The John Parker Wilson thing they had going on at Alabama was awful. If the coach told me I was going to be no. 2 and have to play behind him I would probably quit football all together.

I had heard that some of the nuttier Bama fans had been "watching him" play football since the Pee Wee leagues. He was supposed to be their "golden boy"- I think his Mom was a cheerleader at Bama, and I don't know if his Dad played football or what. But then he goes to Hoover- one of the larger HS's in the largest city in Alabama and wins a State title there, and then finally goes to Bama and becomes the master of the 14-35 with a TD and 2 INT's day. It would have been a nice story if it all had worked out, but the reality is he was just an average D-I QB on a team that was in limbo for his first three years with Shula and then rebiulding his junior year, and he did have a good year his senior year at least. Essentially, their fans built a facade and lived it out.

That's just how we are in the South- maybe other places to. That's why Gene pumped Chris Garrett up. He was from a fairly large town in Mississippi, played at a traditionally strong football school, and was from a State family. And if he had come to MSU and led us to a 10 win season, he would have been a hero for life. Tyler Russell is not much different- I think Meridian may even be larger than Tupelo, again strong football school, led them to a Championship, is a huge State fan. I think we all have in our minds some kind of a story kind of like the Manning's where you essentially have a "local boy made good" story and the guy leads the team to football glory for four years and then goes on to the NFL. The reality is very few QB's are ready to come in and play right away in the SEC. Even as RS freshmen. I think Tyler Russell will also be very good in time as well. But he needs that time to develop. And hopefully we get Cameron Newton and Russell will develop.

An example of this are the people that sit behind me at the MSU games from Columbus. They think that Tyson Lee can do no wrong. It doesn't matter that he is stinking up the place out there, and clearly doesn't belong on the field. But if you say one bad thing about Tyson, you get "Well, let's see you go out there and do better", or I heard someone say something about Lee's arm strength and one of the guys behind me said- "Tyson's arm is as strong as anyone else's in the SEC" . I always warn people that I bring to the games about them so they don't get scolded and wonder "where the heck did that come from?"

I had friends that tried to back up Lee for a long time this season. Last game at Kentucky was all they needed see to change that opinion after the pass to Ducre and the knee hyperextension. But I am glad we still have Tyler Russell's redshirt intact. Like you say he needs to finish out his redshirt year and play some spare time next season. Then his career can really begin to pick up Sophomore and Junior years. That might be my only huge thing I am grateful for this season thanks to Lee and Relf staying the course. We just got to land Newton somehow and then the wait for next season is going to be unbearable.

Going back to JPW. Hoover's tv show really told me all I needed to know about the Alabama perspective. John Parker Wilson was average but by no means was he the one I would like running the offense in the game. If he hadn't gone to Alabama I don't think I would ever have paid a dime of attention to him. It basically boils down to my hate for Alabama and all who cheer them on or plays for them.
I shouldn't say he was turrible because he did provide two great games for state and possibly one of hte greatest single plays to ever occur on Scott Field.

yea he was a 17-up but we could have made it work and kept him here. Some people wanted to make a name for themselves and went after him. He could do no right in certain people's eyes. Man I wish AJ was still a bulldog.
