I was not impressed with their passing game. Had a lot of drops and alot of balls thrown behind receivers...BUT they did attempt to throw the ball more than I can recall.
Bell was 5-9 passing for 66 yards and a 9-yard TD to Cherry. I'm not sure what you mean by "a lot", though. I saw two easy drops and two passes a little behind. I think that stat line is pretty good for only 9 attempts. I mainly worry about the pass blocking. We did run much more than 9 pass plays but Bell got sacked or had to take off running a few times. He also threw two beautiful completions back to back where he dropped the ball into the soft areas of Courtland's zone. Last night's performance was already an improvement over the Sherando game. We'll continue to improve.
Other stats
Louisa: 520 total yards of offense, 454 yards rushing, 27 first downs
Whalen: 20 rushes for 172 yards, 3 TDs
As a comparison, Massaponax had 231 total yards against Courtland. Courtland's defense actually has played well until yesterday, but similar to what others said, their offense is the worst I've ever seen in my 13 years of watching them. KG should be a much stiffer test for the Lions. We can't let Jordan Aley run all around us and crush us with his speed and quickness in space.
I love our "Pistol I" look with Bell at QB, Jones at FB, Whalen at RB and two or three wideouts. Should be very tough to stop moving forward, especially the play-action passes.
