No thanks. That system was corrupt. The same 3-4 teams every year and someone deserving getting left out. The first year of the playoff was very entertaining. The champion wouldn’t have even been included in the old system. We finally had a true playoff.

Truthfully, the viewing experience at home is infinitely better than attending games--it didn't always used to be that way but the cons of attending games definitely out way the pros

How do you prevent opt outs and portal decisions in an expanded system? It’s already a concern at 12 teams. How is it a good idea to expand the playoffs when there is no real system in place to regulate the sport? Why even have conferences anymore?

We've yet to have anyone opt out of a playoff game. There's zero concern IMO about anyone opting out of a playoff game for the draft.
We've had kids quit on their team instead of waiting for the playoff to end. Anyone that transfers during a playoff run isn't someone you want on your team anyway IMO

Didn’t Beau Pribula opt out of the playoffs for Penn State.

Not really.

In order to enroll at Mizzou for the Spring semester, he was forced to make a decision to leave Penn State ahead of last year's playoff, or he wouldn't be allowed to matriculate until Fall of 2025 (meaning he wouldn't be allowed to participate in Spring practices and compete for the starting job).

This was yet another example of how Penn State always has be the vanguard/catalyst for change in an unfair, poorly thought-out system.

It happened with the playoffs (when we got screwed out of a National Championship in '94).
It happened with instant replay (Penn State @ Michigan, 2005 where Paterno literally threatened to withdraw from the conference after flagrantly biased officiating handed Michigan a win)
And now it's happened again with Penn State's backup QB being forced to miss a playoff run because no one at the NCAA raised their hand and went, "Wait a minute... shouldn't we make an exception for athletes that intend to portal, but whose current teams are eligible for the playoffs?"

It's really amazing how often no one notices the mountain of ******** until it buries the Nittany Lions.

I know many people believe that March madness is the ultimate sport event. Not me. It just takes too much away from the regular season games, rendering them almost meaningless. CFB, a game that I have loved and looked forward to over the years has lost its way. Maybe it's my age and not wanting to let go of the past but I have embraced change in most other areas. I just think the collective of NIL, transfers and the expanded playoff have damaged the game. That's my view

Unfortunately, it was reported by Josh Pate and others that several players threatened to opt out of the playoffs last season, demanding more money. It will 100% happen in an expanded playoff unless there is reform.

I like the 24/28 team playoff idea. Just so you understand the lens that I am looking through. I don't care about college football or what's best for what conference, etc. All I care about is what's best for Penn State Football. With 7 automatic bids in a 24/28 team field, we should get in every year. If you are in the playoff, you have a chance to win the national championship. I don't mind the fact that there is no conference championship. Being in that game can help you (if you win it) but losing it can also hurt you, not to mention it's an extra game that you have to play. I will still watch every regular season game and enjoy every one (as long as we win). I don't agree that it will ruin the regular season. You will be playing to get into the playoff and for seeding. I think it will also make non-conference scheduling more important. An early season loss won't hurt as much but a win could really help your resume at the end of the year, so there is less reluctance to schedule a tougher non-conference schedule.

I know not everyone will agree with me, but that is the way that I look at it.

I couldn't disagree more with this statement
1--The Conference Championships games aren't one of the best things (let alone a good thing) for college football
2--The larger the playoff is the more meaningful regular season games we get. Kanell's statement is only thinking about the elite programs.

If it goes to 24 (which is inevitable) or more than all conferences need an auto-bid. That makes so many more games "meaningful"
With a 4 team playoff the regular season was just for pride for countless teams.
Go back to the end of last year--so many more games in November mattered than in the past

Honestly, who believes Conference Championship games are he best part of the sport?

It won't happen--lots of idle threats are made.

It doesn't though--you eliminate a regular season game and the conference championship games. Playoffs start immediately after the regular season ends instead of the insane delay and weeks between rounds we currently have.

It's no an issue for FCS and won't be here either.

Couple things

He went to Missouri not Ole Miss and he absolutely could have enrolled for the spring and stayed--see Ohio State's backup QB who stayed through the entirety of the playoffs.
Franklin's outdated concept of what he requires was the only issue.
Paterno and many others wanted a playoff long before 94--most fans did not.
Your best argument would be us killing the NCAA with the Sandusky aftermath but Beau's decision was a Franklin flaw not the NCAA

To further the "no bye" beliefs I hold. 1 has to play 16 (in my world). I don't care if they are -28 in Vegas, they have to play. They can still lose, and they can still get guys hurt.

No one should be watching games on tv on a playoff weekend and still be in the tournament. No way is that fair.

I agree with the no byes, as we’ve seen with state and Northern Illinois, and some other others, there’s always a chance for an upset.
For us to work though they’re going to need to shorten the regular season by a game

12 is already too many, unless implementing a structure where every conference including all of the G5s gets one (and only one) autobid for the conference champion, along with a handful of at large spots. That's the only way I support further expansion. If continuing with this committee nonsense, the field should be reduced to 8.

Psu has a policy that once you enter the portal that you may not participate anymore. I think it is for legal and medical lawsuit protection. Unfortunately, NCAA rules forced Beau into the portal prior to the playoffs. This was a PSU rule not a JF rule.
