The first sentence of David Murray's article on the 9-game SEC schedule:
This is such a loser mentality. Adding a difficult game to the schedule is not a bomb bursting on your program. If it is, we should shut the whole thing down. We went 2-10 last season. We're not in a position to be worried about one additional SEC game hurting our chances at making a bowl, much less the CFP. We need to get better so that any of this matters.
I'm glad our AD doesn't share this mentality:
We weren't making a 12-team CFP anytime soon with an 8-game SEC schedule anyway. We are much more likely to make a 16-team (or more) CFP with the updated methodology (SOS/SOR) moving forward, even with the extra SEC game.
A day after the bomb burst on Bulldog football, ramifications of the SEC's decision to expand conference schedules starting in 2026 are still settling.

By implementing a nine-game SEC football schedule, our league is signaling a bold step into the future and one that brings more marquee games, greater exposure, and expanded opportunities for everyone involved. This change advances our program, enriches our student-athletes' journey, excites our fans, and pushes the sport forward in a time where leading the way and advancing forward is an absolute must. This is a critical time for Mississippi State, as we too must be bold and advance forward. Sustainable success is something we are laser focused on each and every day.
