We have a multimillion dollar jumbotron and sound system. There are more creative things that can be done other than a siren.

however, lets try not to let it go off right before we kick a field goal again. as a matter of fact i don't remember hearing it again after that game. does anybody else remember that? i can remember the game but i think we missed the field goal too.

In fact, I think we should let it go off prematurely more often. But not too much... the more surprising, the better, especially on game winning kicks. It will give the kicker a sudden boost of confidence.

Back in the day, they fired the thing across the length of the stadium. Think firing a lob from the M Club building over the The Hump. It was LOUD.<div>
</div><div>Now days, they point thing thing away and on SPS from ROTC says they cut the gunpowder way back. Anyway now days you listen for it instead of being slapped in the face with it.</div><div>
</div><div>I say lose the canon if we aren't going to do it right.</div><div>
</div>

1. It's not a tornado siren, it's an air raid siren.
2. It's not a cannon, it's a howitzer.

....and it fired as the ball was being snapped for a 51-yard FG attempt, which was missed. The story I heard is that the ROTC guy had someone else, a friend, or contest winner, or something, who was going to fire it that time. The person was told "When I tell you to pull it, pull it.", at which point the person immediately pulled it, not waiting for the promised command.

As I have heard, Mullen had some choice words over the incident toward the ROTC people.
