Ignazio,

This week is going to be really rough.

Rice over Monitini
MC big over DePaul
STL beats Rita
PC wins
LA really big over SF. I think Loyola will score on the first play of the game. I hope they keep the score down and keep the clock running

Is Prince Walker back for Montini? Heard he may have aggrevated his quad again during the Fenwick game? If he's out just can't see them beating Rice at Rice.

StL at SR: SR has a “Miracle in the Meadowlands” /Joe Pisarcik part 2 last Friday. Laurence has had this 1 circled. I am gonna stick to my guns on this and go with Laurence as they return the favor and go for 2 in OT. Vikings 43-42

LA vs WSF . LA gets a well- deserved breather before Fenwick week 5 , 49-7

MC v DePaul/GT- MC gets to play where the 80’s Goldie Hawn movie “Wildcats” was filmed.MC 1 more week before 2 weeks vs SR /BR of Southside Tet Lunar New Year. 49-7

PC v Ignatius. Not sure in the big picture , that PC can recover mentally from last week’s gift. This week I will say PC 28-12 though

BR over Montini 56-7

I'm picking Montini over Brother Rice in the upset of the year! Whenever the Feeto's upset pick thread comes out. I just have a feeling..... Not sure what that feeling is - but I'm going with it. Broncos need a win.......Voodoo magic will be sprinkled on the ball and on the field in spirit from the NC visitor stands...

I know:( and I'm not sure if I will have enough for all as most of my current batch that is percolating for Friday is needed for WV to get by NC.

Bronco fans - I will share as much as I can. Hopefully it will be enough for me to call it right for the Feeto upset pick of the year.

I know Fitz left and some guys left with him but what is the outlook of the program here? Not competitive in any of the 3 games. I still recognize a few names from the shootouts they had with BR the previous two seasons.

But only 10 juniors on the roster?

At least the frosh numbers look ok at 36.

Larry/Rita is an interesting one... I think Larry winning would be a bigger upset than Montini as any decent team could beat Rice at any given time as I am still not sold on their coaching for a complete 48 minute game, last year's playoff game will stick around for a couple of years. Rice could win 48-0 but while trying to get to 48 they could give up 50. I think Montini can out coach Rice which oddly has former Rice coach on staff.

Not sure about Larry having interior size. Last year they hung with Rice because Rice did not have size. The fact Rita received a miracle last week leads me to like them at home.

Go with two home teams

Rice 42-35......after Crete, still can't trust that defense but not certain Montini has depth to stop Rice offense

Rita 42-28...I think the Rita size advantage on the line (if there is one, have not seen Rita this year) would be the difference.

The others should all fall to highly favored winners

Smell upset all the way. Montini needs a win and rice is due for a let down.

Rice Homecoming - if Prince Walker is out then upset is going to be tough on the road. Rice OLB (Veal - the Jr) is out. ILB King is day to day.

The freshman team looks to be pretty good. They didn't have enough participant to field a JV team so all of those guys are on the varsity.

SF plays their hearts out but there is very little talent on either side of the ball. Add in some academic issues and the talent level is even worse this week than last.

The young ones won't believe this but for close to two decades SR v SL was the South Side SuperBowl.

Their regular season match ups were moved to Soldier Field in the late 70s. You had SL stopping SR 22 game win streak in '72 in a 14-14 tie.

In '78 SR beat SL at Soldier Field with SR O'Neill beating his HOF SL Coach brother Mike with a TD and interception in front of 15,000.

In '79 SL stopped SR 26 game winning streak in front of 20,000 by winning 21-20 keeping SR out of the state playoffs.

In '82 SR returned the favor keeping SL out of the state playoffs with a win.

In '85 in front of the biggest HS crowd in a HS stadium that I seen up to that point, SR eliminated SL in the second round of the state playoffs with a late FG. That game featured 10 D1 players. That was the biggest crowd I've seen at a HS stadium until '88 SR v MC and then of course the '89 SR v MC game at Gately.

As SR and MC rivalry took off, SL went MIA for a bit. But Viking football is back returning a spark to this match up. If you watched those SR v SL games in the 70s and 80s as I was lucky enough to, you were home in two hours. They ran the ball and then ran the ball and the first one to 14 won.

But in this year's SR v SL return to glory rivalry game both teams have high-powered, hurry up offenses with playmakers on both teams.
This will be a fun one.

I will start my Friday afternoon by getting my pocket chain wallet and heading to Ford City mall. I'll head to Peacock Alley and pick up a Black Sabbath satin jacket. On my way out, I'll get an Orange Julius and head to 79th and Western and sit with a smile on my face and wonder where my hair line went.

Welcome back Vikings but I'll have to pick my beloved Mustangs to win 56 to 50 3OTs. Good Luck. Have fun.

Great Write Up - that 85 game was epic - Glonek, Harrison, Smagala, Grunhard, Pearson vs Foley, etc. Rita went on to lose an epic game to Rice in the quarters on a Barounes to Bowes 95 yarder. Larry is making some sort of a comeback but they have a shrinking feeder pool - Patricia, Albert the Great, Louis DeMontford, Geralds, Bedes, Denis used to be their pipelines

Top, Thanks for the '85 quarterfinal reminder. Incredible game in an incredible rain storm. All the feeders for all the privates are drying up. But if you told little 3rd grade me at the '72 SR v SL game that they would still be playing meaningful football in the Catholic League 44 years later, I wouldn't believe you. Enjoy the moment and memories. All of HS football might not be around in a decade or two. Or Rauner and the Illinois voters could demand school choice changing the privates' fortune and lower enrollment trend in an instant. Who knows? Not the thread to care about any of that. My mind's on Friday and Friday's on my mind.

Next year will be rough again but I think numbers wise and from what I hear talent wise it should be much better after that, this year's FR and Soph classes. Note not predicting Bartlett FR but it's encouraging.

No way, not gonna happen. Have not seen life from the Bronco in 3 weeks. (The LZ win was not beating a good team as LZ was 4-5 team last year) Book it!

It won't happen but as far back as I can remember if Montini wins at Brother Rice tomorrow it will be the 2nd biggest upset ever in their history (First being win over JCA in 2009 State Championship game)

I for the first time in many many years will be skipping the Montini game this week and attending another game.

3Ornage whips,

Well there are actually only 7 juniors on the roster and smaller numbers have forced the program to go to a freshman, JV and varsity teams.

This is the second year that this has happened too. I know the sophmore class has a good number of kids and the freshman have I think 37 kids. Both the freshman and the F/S kids are good athletes but its the juniors and seniors where number are really bad. I am pretty sure that there are something like 22 seniors. With around 800 total kids in the school 29 kids on a varisity team doesn't look good.

I won't guess at the final record this year and I keep hearing if this year is bad next year will be worse but I think 2-7 could be a real possibility. Maybe worse.

Next year will be terrible.

DoS, off the top of my head, I would say yes. 10 to 9 Laurence won at Rita in the last regular season game in 1987. That loss prevented Rita from going to the State Playoffs that year also. Some big, fun games back then between these two.

Rita beats Larry then they're going to the playoffs. If not, then they might be looking at 4-5. Big game for the Mustangs. With the win from last week vs Provy then I have to go with the Stangs in this one. Should be a good game

ALl you guys have to do is get to 5. From Mount Carmel, Rice Fenwick and Maine SOuth alone Montini will have around 30 playoff points.

Marmion will be Montini's swing game as I don't see them beating MC or BR at this time but then again that's why you play the games! And Topiary are you picking Rita more based off them being in the Blue and you not thinking a team in the White can't compete? Rita should be 1-2 but Provi got greedy and paid for it. And yes I realize that IC put up 63 on Laurence but I still think Laurence has more speed and will wear out the Size of Rita. But in all should be a great game and hopefully will re-spark the rivalry of 79th street!

I went with Rita because they came back from a lot down - they have a solid pass game and they're playing at home (Homecoming I believe). So while I think it's going to be a good game, I see Rita pulling it out (plus if they don't then most likely they are not going to the playoffs and that'd be a killer for recruiting)

Now that's what I like to see - actual reasons!!! and I could not agree with you more, SR loss will make things difficult for them to get recruits. Maybe they should look into taking over LWN campus and go after the suburban kids...........

Ugh, back to the end of SR story. Last year's St. Laurence team and this year's very good and Top 25 ranked team were 7th and 8th graders when Rita beat Laurence 55 to 14. That score did not have much impact on the families that chose Larry. One game either way to a 110 year old school that has been a top 20 program in the state for the past 50 years minus a couple lackluster seasons (I want to say around 1997 Rita was 2 and 7 or 3 and 6 but that didn't destroy recruiting for the 2000's for Rita) is not going to expedite the closure of said school or the need to move.

This year's team is extremely talented with great senior leadership. Last year's 3-6 team was 9-0 as Freshman. Obviously, lower level scores mean little but we do watch them to see who did well recruiting. By the time those Freshman became Seniors, they lost 3 impact players (a hybrid 6'6 TE, a speedster that would have been a weapon anytime he touched the ball, and a starting Fullback that could lead block, get tough yards and catch the ball) DoS is worried about MC's team by losing one impact player. And Rita's kids didn't leave the school but chose baseball because they already had next level opportunities . They CHOSE baseball. They weren't forced to choose as was implied earlier this season in another thread. But last year's team being 9-0 as Freshman and this year's senior class (plus the 10 or so Junior and Sophomores starting) shows that great kids and families still choose St. Rita

Sorry for the rant but the Rita in trouble narrative and lies are getting old.

i actually think DE Lassalle is the swing game. not sure Bronco can get by them. this is a way different year. much more difficult competition, weakness at QB and defense....not sure you can compare a potential comeback like previous teams have come back. lets see if these kids step up. I'm pretty sure their top running back will not be very relevant this year. don't know anything except for what I have seen. I think there is an injury there that is going to keep the kid sidelined for most of the year. given lack of quality throwing, Bronco needed him to be their primary offensive weapon, and right now he is out.

Yes better then most small colleges !!! However Rita can then go after the Indiana kids that MC also goes after. And remember you can only play 11 kids a side. That will have a kid ask if he wants to ride the pine possibly at HF or get a chance to play. Either way it's all thoughts and assumptions for now
