Montini over rice but has nothing to do with coaching. Not sure your beef with the rice staff refref01?
Smell upset all the way. Montini needs a win and rice is due for a let down.

I just think they become more concerned with scoring points than winning games. The playoff loss, Crete, Francis and St Laurence last year stick out. The Crete game this year as well.

They are doing good things over there so I could just be nit picking.

Ugh, back to the end of SR story. Last year's St. Laurence team and this year's very good and Top 25 ranked team were 7th and 8th graders when Rita beat Laurence 55 to 14. That score did not have much impact on the families that chose Larry. One game either way to a 110 year old school that has been a top 20 program in the state for the past 50 years minus a couple lackluster seasons (I want to say around 1997 Rita was 2 and 7 or 3 and 6 but that didn't destroy recruiting for the 2000's for Rita) is not going to expedite the closure of said school or the need to move.

This year's team is extremely talented with great senior leadership. Last year's 3-6 team was 9-0 as Freshman. Obviously, lower level scores mean little but we do watch them to see who did well recruiting. By the time those Freshman became Seniors, they lost 3 impact players (a hybrid 6'6 TE, a speedster that would have been a weapon anytime he touched the ball, and a starting Fullback that could lead block, get tough yards and catch the ball) DoS is worried about MC's team by losing one impact player. And Rita's kids didn't leave the school but chose baseball because they already had next level opportunities . They CHOSE baseball. They weren't forced to choose as was implied earlier this season in another thread. But last year's team being 9-0 as Freshman and this year's senior class (plus the 10 or so Junior and Sophomores starting) shows that great kids and families still choose St. Rita

Sorry for the rant but the Rita in trouble narrative and lies are getting old.
I don't think it's about the future of the school - rather the future of how competitive they will be. Not making playoffs does have an effect. Plus it puts alumni pressure on the school and then the coach. The same applies to Rice too. Gotta make the playoffs - it helps get kids

I don't disagree but it's just one of many factors. Recruiting goes in waves. Especially now as all the South Side schools go after overlapping areas.

Take MC as they've been the most consistently good/great program. Their 2000s have been great but I don't think as dominant as their 90's teams. It's because everyone's pulling from a shrinking pot. Sometimes you get a family, sometimes you don't. This sort of parity has made the Blue exciting year in and year out. Too many playoff appearances and kids look elsewhere. If you are a top back, why go where 2 other top backs are going. St. Laurence is a perfect example of why playoff appearances are only part of the formula. They get a couple anchor kids (kids that 5, or 10 other kids want to play with) and playoff appearances don't really matter. Now they are competitive and a State Semi-finalist last year.

My rants or long winded posts come from the doubt throwers. Take the pulse on the board and you would think Rita is down or not getting the impact players. This crap is a great thing to spread. You get people believing that and then why would a good 8th grade football player go to a school where no good football players are going? See the crap Tops? But this Rita is down crap is based on a so-so year, a bad year and a DoS under .500 prediction for this year's team plus a 3pt loss to an undefeated St. Pats team and it's just crap. I just proved in my last spiel that the down year last year was because of the great athletes that Rita does attract, not because they don't attract impact athletes. They made a tough decision to not risk injury because they had next level offers in baseball even though they were on the top recruited 9 and 0 freshman team. And this year hasn't even played out yet. They have one 3pt loss to an undefeated team. Then they were supposed to lose to A big, fast Rich Central team but didn't. Then Provy happened and they received a crack in the door but still had to blow the door down and move 70 yards in 1 1/2 minutes with no time outs. So now people question if Provy is any good because they lost to Rita. Geez, they lost to ESL big (in week 1 which is always a rough week) and Rita. All I see is a pretty talented St. Rita team and others would see it but the crap is thick. Rita has a heck of a schedule ahead of them but who cares, it's the Blue. That's why you want to play in the Blue, for schedules like this. I'll let the season play out. I'm not as smart or good looking as DoS. But the veteran posters know what they are doing. Sowing those seeds of doubt. Rita may go 8 and 1 or 2 and 7 who knows, but they will be competitive in each game. Hey man it's St. Laurence week and they are good. I feel 100lbs lighter and my mullets back. Let's just enjoy this great match up instead of slinging crap.

No way, not gonna happen. Have not seen life from the Bronco in 3 weeks. (The LZ win was not beating a good team as LZ was 4-5 team last year) Book it!

I for the first time in many many years will be skipping the Montini game this week and attending another game.

Sorry to hear you won't be at the game. Don't blame you though. I always appreciate your insight on Montini players and game plan. Hoping for an upset but the way the team is playing it will be hard to get it.

That was pretty witty - DoS's prediction about being sub-500. I know that the kids from Barnabas, John Fisher and Christ the King read Edgy's Free board and assuming Dean has swayed at least 10 blue chippers away from Rita and Rice over to MC

Definitely. Maybe we can join forces against him. No I can't, you're a Rice man and I'm having a throwback weekend and need all BR, SL and MC posters to hate me to really re-live my mullet days. Screw it, calling all Catholic League posters out to Hayes Park Saturday to settle this the old-fashioned way. DoS will probably show up in a limo with 4 recruits.

Points over wins??? Come on brother. No one in the coaching profession wants points over wins

Ahhhh yes - The pressure to score a lot of points to impress the DSR voters was too much for the coach (he knows full well how much the DSR voters love their sugar!!) but the fact is - they (and everyone else) like wins more than points.

Could be one of the best posts ever

Yes, St. Lizards work on the Catholic prediction thread this year has been excellent except for this week's 3rd prediction. I want to see as much JLaw as the next person but not used as the representative of his prediction. 'Am I Blue' by Rita Coolidge would have been a better song.

Looks like we're in "Throwback Week" (which is every week when you consider MC's offense. AmIright?).

Blue:
MCHS @ BR (BR 35 MCHS 26) - It's '81 Crusaders vs the '79 Broncs (3-6, Adriano's rookie year). Rice beats the spread.
MC @ TECH (MC 41 TECH 0) - Rams QB is out. Taking the Caravan, giving the points.
SL @SR (SL 36 SR 35) - I just hope my T-Tops don't get stolen while I'm at the game. 'Stangs.
PC @ SI (PC 24 SI 7) - Last time the Wolves were this good, New Lenox didn't have indoor plumbing and mail only came once a week. Taking the points and the Wolves.
SF @ LA (LA 46 SF 6) - Tick tock. LA.
Green:

MA @ BMac (BMac 34 MA 13) - Cadets and the points.
DLS @ AC (**NO LINE**) - D.
MCHS @ BR (above)
F @ Leo (F 33 Leo 0) - Does the Heisman make road games? It should. F
SF @ LA (above)
White:
DLS @ AC (above)
SL @ SR (above)
PC @ SI (above)
MA @ BMac (above)
Red:
MC @ TECH (above)
F @ Leo (above)
SJ @ LFA (LFA 38 SJ 21) - Mike Clark (as usual) got the story about a great coach and a solid gentleman, Rich Petroski. Chargers straight up.

Iggy, Your T-tops won't be stolen but if they are on a trans am with a Phoenix decal then I just might bring my Deep Purple cassette and take that little baby out for a joy ride and see what she can do.
