Hope over Guerin:
Guerin's dream 2-0 start has become a nightmare 2-7.

SR over DP
Rita travels to the historic stadium of Chicago Academy. DP's misery ends quickly

SI over Leo
Iggy's really put a nice season together.

Marmion over Joe's
Ugh...

DLS over SL
DLS gets the W. I'm not a high school football aficionado, but this Larry's season really surprised me.

MC over Fenwick
The Caravan get the "bye week" before the playoff stretch. I must give the Friar's some kudos for showing fight the last few weeks.

Loyola over Providence
Loyola will give the "people's elbow" to Providence. Provi should have looked to switch conferences with Marian Catholic

BR over Montini
Rice completes the mission of 9-0, but I see this game coming down to the wire.

What is the “people’s elbow”?

Learn something new every day

The People's Elbow is one of the The Rock's finishing moves and is the most electrifying move in all of ACLS. It is a variant of the precordial thump and it is way cooler. Besides it allows you to wear an elbow pad that you can toss into a crowd of your millions (and millions) of adoring fans.

Nope. I'm guessing that's the pride of Weber High, Chico Kurzawski, wearing #22 for the mighty Red Horde. Pretty sure that game is a battle for Polish neighborhood bragging rights between Weber and Gordon at Hanson Stadium.

Ramblin for the win.

What year would that pic have been taken? I'm thinking like 64 or 65. Chico graduated from Northwestern in the late 60s.
I believe it was '64, Kurzawski led Weber to a win that year, Rams won the next.

The tackler on the right was Joe Bunge.

Showing my age, I played little league baseball with Chico. His mom and dad owned a tavern on Archer Avenue. I think it was called Jigs and Lil's. He dad sponsored the little league uniforms.

Well, you've got a few years on me then. I used to sneak into Dyche Stadium to watch Chico and the 'Cats back in those days.

BR(8-0) @ St Montini(8-0)

I will take Rice by a slim margin. But going 8-1 isn't to shabby for Montini in their first year in the Blue.

Gordon Tech 21 Weber 17

Driscoll 24 Mendel 14

I doubt if Gordon Tech beat Weber very often ... not likely in the 50s 60s or 70s.

Weber and GT were run by the same order of priests. Eventually, they saw GT as the more likely school to survive, so they closed Weber and transferred all its assets to GT.

Prior to this, a college friend of mine was one of several prominent Weber grads asked to form a committee to save the school. They developed a viable strategic plan but the priests panicked and shut down Weber.

I'm not sure if those priests still run Gordon's successor school DePaul Something, or not.

Perhaps of some interest to you CCL historians, the dad of another college friend from Weber told me that after WWII and during the early 50s, Weber played Saturday night game at Hansen Stadium to packed crowds I'm sure that it seated 8,000 and could accommodate 50% beyond that in standing room.

I recall MC playing Weber twice during my 4 years. My first recollection is that they had absolutely the hottest cheerleaders of any school in the league. Bar none. Beautiful blond girls in tight red sweaters with a big W across the front. Too much for a sheltered 15 year old Irish boy from Evergreen Park. Secondly, they had a running back on they '61 team named Jim Burda -- outstanding player. I got to know him a few years later at DePaul. He got hurt at Michigan and they dropped him. He was really nice guy -- thank God because he was built like the proverbial brick you-know-what.

THIS YEAR'S GAME OF THE CENTURY:
Amazing the difference a year can make for a team. History in the making for the Crusades. Blue title for the Broncs their first year up. Taking Saint Montini and the 14 points, but see the title going to Maroon and . . . Orange.
