Wow, what a break. I don’t think the bucket should have counted…but I’m not complaining, it was a huge swing…It literally kept us in it… and probably key to winning it.

Refs were bad both ways for sure.

That was a bad call. As was the call late in the game when I think it was Hyatt got called for a defensive foul when that big oaf on Wisky put an elbow to his chest and pushed him down. Like you said, at least it was bad both ways.

Watching it live it was a horrific call. But whatever. That's college basketball.

Refs were really bad today. Oscar with a huge flop on one end that went uncalled and then he gets the charge called against him when the off defender was in the circle.

I thought the ref may have called the foul on the trip which is what actually caused Cliff to stumble. In that case, I could see the bucket counting. He did signal a block call though so not sure what the reasoning was there.
Yup didn’t call the first two fouls called the third which was why the hoop counted
A good call on the hoop counting but bizarre

Not sure I saw 3 fouls but agree with this. He didn’t call the flop on Chuxkie which would have been a break for wisky. He had to call the trip and 1.

Flop call gives Cam a FT and we keep possession unless it was 1 and q at the point. Would have been an okay no call on the flop too since Chuckie was in foul trouble all game. We would have complained but not calling that makes sense there since he really had some bad luck all day in the calls department. Tough day for Chicky. We’ve been there.

If you watch the play in slow motion, you’ll see Cliff walk to the bench for a towel and a sip of Gatorade before finishing his shot, for the proper continuation call.

Yep I agree with this. The foul was not on Hep falling, in fact if Cliff missed and Wisconsin gets the rebound I think the ref was going to whistle for a flop (hence no whistle - they don’t stop play immediately for a flop, they stop it after a change in possession and other team gets a free throw)

But, then Hep tripped Cliff as he was shooting, that’s why the foul was an and-1. The only weird thing was the red signaling block, but I think he just didn’t know what to signal for “tripping while rolling around on the ground”

Even with the trip that shot was a good full step after , but hey, it evens out I guess. Great to get one our way. Kept momentum going.

Boomer moment: 20 tears ago it used to be that anything you could throw up after a foul (without stopping or walking) was considered continuation. To rebalance the Shaq-attack, they were making defenses suffer an and-one on made buckets. College and high school followed this unwritten change. We've migrated to the other extreme in my opinion. I've played reffed and unreffed games with people who have a wide difference on what is considered continuation, but I don't think anyone would claim that shooting after holding the ball with two hands in a full stop would be considered in the act of shooting. It's a judgement call so you've got to expect refs to get it wrong sometimes and just play on. They got it wrong but not egregiously.

According to the current NCAA basketball rules book, the definition of a blocking foul is any illegal personal contact that impedes the progress of an opponent... It doesn't say it can't be with legs or when the defender is on the floor. With that being the case, I think the blocking call may have been correct.
