The Colts Should Just Draft Luck and Let the Chips Fall

Gauge Manning to see if he'd like to stay if he's OK. If Manning gets his butt hurt then let find another team. I just can't see paying a potential career ending injury QB 28M.

I have a feeling that axing Bill Polian is just the beginning of a big overhaul with the Colts and might be paving the way for them to trade/release Manning. Manning seemed pretty pissed about Polian's firing.

Considering there are probably a dozen franchise QB's in the NFL, how much would you have to receive to knowingly trade Luck.

What ifthe Jetscome to you and offer three first rounders, 2 2nd rounders and a 2 3rd rounders.

Do you make the trade?

If you are the Jets, do you make that trade? Can you offset the loss in talent infusion through the draft with free agency. The Bears gave up two first rounders for Cutler and used that money to go get Julius Peppers.

Luck looked amazing last night, but what if Manning is healthy and has 5 good years in him. Im not saying he does, but what if he does, and you can land everything I just listed from the Jets, hell maybe more.

If you are the Jets don't you make that trade to try and win now?

I would keep Manning and let Luck learn under him for a season just like Rodgers did with Favre and Brady did with Bledsoe. Next year if it looks like Luck is coming along and Manning proves that his neck is not going to be an issue then trade Manning for more than they are likely to get right now with so many question marks about hishealth.

Peyton isn't going to be around forever, but in order to prepare the the day he's no longer around, they need a whole lot more than just a QB. If someone offers a lot of picks, I'd make the swap and maybe even take a QB further down the board if you get a pick that allows it.

If I though I could gets a plethora of picks, including one where I thought I'd have a chance and RGIII, I would jump on it. Or if I though highly enough of Landry Jones or Ryan Tannehill, I might do it.

Either way, the Colts have to pick a QB that they could throw in the fire if Manning isn't okay.

but I'm pretty sure he said he totally understands the business side, and passing on a QB like Luck wouldn't be smart, if they were in position to.

But otherwise they have no real choice but to draft Luck. Manning may have 5 more good years left in him, but with 3 neck surguries, there's a very good chance his career is over or at the very least he'll never be nearly as good as he once was. The Colts can't afford to count on him for next season.

Since they can sign Luck to a manageable deal they actually could have both QB's on the roster, but Im not sure they are best served to do that.

How do you pay Peyton a roster bonus of 28 million and then draft Luck number 1 overall. I just don't know how they do that. I think it comes down to whether you think Peyton has 5 Peyton Manning years left in him. If you do, you trade the pick and help rebuild your franchise that needs help everywhere.

If you think Peyton is only good for 3 more years, you take Luck, and trade Manning to the Jets, the Skins, Chiefs, Seahawks, or Dolphins and get what you can which could be a late first and a third.

Considering how bad the Colts are, and how much talent they need trading Luck for multiple and I mean multiple picks could really re-invent the franchise. Also, first round picks have way more value then in year's past with the slotting system.

He may never play again.
I say trade his *** and your #1 pick and rebuild the team. The Colts are more than just a QB away from contending this year.
They have a lot of spots to fill on that team.

I just don't see how you pay that to a QB coming offa season where he didn't play and may not be at full strength a 28 million dollar roster bonus.

This would never happen for any other player, but Peyton is truly the exception to the rule. Its a tough decision, but I don't see how you do both.Either yourebuild around Luck, or you rebuild around Peyton using Luck to make the rebuild happen quickly.

I think that's a lot more likely than him having 5, or even 3, Peyton-like years left in him. And good luck trading him until he passes a physical. Even then, I'm not sure how many teams are going to want to eat that March roster bonus. Fact is, Polian screwed up big-time by making that deal in the first place and I'm sure that's a big reason why he was fired. If you can get a Hershell Walker type trade for the pick, you definitely have to take it.

I don't even see a team like the Redskins signing up for that roster bonus.

The best case scenario for the Colts is that Manning is healthy. If he is, I think they have a chance to shape their franchise by trading Luck. Teams like the Redskins would literally give up multiple picks, players and whatever it takes for him.

If he isn't healthy, I think you have to first try and trade him, but eventually you have to realize where you are and tell him thanks, but that Marvin Harrison ain't walking through that door and Reggie Wayne has logged a ton of miles, and basically its time for him to go somewhere else. Im just not sure they can do it PR wise.
Its going to be a very, very interesting decision. Most likely they take the chicken way out of it, and keep Manning and draft Luck and basically waste him as an asset.
