They jumped us to 7... Great! They did that just for this matchup that we got.

We had the opportunity to take on TCU or Baylor and prove something but aGAIN they tossed the Big 10 a bone with Michigan State and for all intents and purposes jumped Ole ****ing Miss "ahead of us" with their matchup. "Here's a gift Archie, we miss you."

Beating GT won't change any opinons of us.. and if the Bears or Spartans win they will jump us in the final rankings.

The Orange is great but I REALLY wanted to take down Baylor or TCU... in Dallas.

7 is our ceiling.

Oh good grief

What we got was IDEAL! Who cares about some goofball ranking. I want a shiny piece of hardware to bring back to the display case. This gives us the absolute best chance of that. And on top of that, it's an ORANGE BOWL trophy, one of the most historic and prominent bowl games in existence.

Secondly, Ole Miss won't be jumping us in any poll if we win the Orange Bowl. The Playoff Committee's process is done. There are no massive reassessments after every week. It will just be the AP and Coaches polls, polls which have historically hesitated to jump teams ahead of other teams that won. And even if they did, I don't give a rip if we're bringing an Orange Bowl trophy back to Starkville.

Yeah, but now you'll get a shirt that says "Orange Bowl Champion" instead of one that's says "MSU/TCU Peach Bowl". I have no faith in our secondary stopping either TCU or Baylor.

Plus, we play at 8ET NYE and its in Miami. I guess I'll settle for watching OM/TCU at noon in 75 degree weather.

im pumped.

The committee wouldn't rank the teams just to get the match-up they want. They have a good reason that they left Minnesota in the Top 25 in 4 of the last 5 weeks, even though they lost two times and didn't play in the last week.**

Last time I checked, 7 is closer to 5 than 10.** But if State stayed at 10, you would write, "10 is our ceiling."

The committee ranked us the highest 2 loss team

and had us at #1 and #4 for most of the season. What opinions are you hoping to change?

The Orange bowl is a reward for our players and University for a great season. The players get to go to a great city that many people from our state don't get the chance to go to. They get to see South Beach, get the Orange Bowl swag, and they get a prime time game in a tradition rich bowl. Huge payout as well. Just bc you don't like the matchup, don't overlook the positives.

Just hope they take care of business. Even if 7 is our ceiling, which it isn't, that's a pretty damn good spot when you consider the company behind us.

I know it gives us a better chance of winning, but I also sense a touch of disrespect from the committee. We deserved to be matched up with a higher ranked opponent. We are the only one not playing a top 10 team. 8 and 9 got top 10 games and we got #12. Something not right there.

1-4, 2-3, 5-8, 6-9, and we are 7-12. This system was set up to create matches between the best teams available. We got skipped over. We deserved to be matched with 5 or 6 or even 8. Just did.

My point exactly. Cotton vs TCU would have been gravy

I can't see where the Committee showed us any disrespect. They moved us from 10 to 7. I'm glad we are going to a prestigious historic bowl like the Orange Bowl and in prime time too.

The Orange Bowl has a contract with the ACC and the highest rated ACC Team, that is not in the championship series, is the host team VS the highest ranked SEC or Big10 team, that is not in the championship series. When the Committee moved us ahead of Michigan State, then the Orange Bowl was an automatic for us. I'm not even sure the committee had a say in that bowl matchup. The Orange Bowl has a bigger payout too.

So you wanted to play either of the teams that got hosed out of the playoff in their home state? Your intelligence shines through as usual.

We have a very good chance to win our game and jump to the top 5 after the season is over. We would easily jump any of the teams ahead of us with a win if they lost, except probably Alabama and more than likely Oregon.

Nah. What happened here was that the Big Ten had 10 bowl-eligible teams and only eight available spots. Ohio State moved up to the playoffs making it 10 teams for nine spots.

The B1G couldn't have both the Orange and Citrus but could have the Cotton, Peach, or Fiesta with the Citrus. I wouldn't be surprised if Barry Alvarez convinced his colleagues on the committee to downgrade Michigan State so that they would be below our MSU in order for all bowl-eligible B1G teams to be in bowls.

And if that's the case, then the B1G did an outstanding job.

Don't care. Miami and OB > Dallas and Cotton.

^^^This^^^

In five years maybe it will be different, but right now the Cotton and Peach still feel inferior and like less of a reward than the Orange Bowl. And it's actually a little bit of gravy that we get to play a run heavy attack after losing two of our three best safeties. I really don't want our lack of healthy safeties to be the reason that the Big 12 gets to claim that it's on par with the SEC.

Does the orange bowl host a semi final game next year?

This years orange bowl could be good experience for next years championship run. Regardless, somebody on here will find something to gripe about no matter the bowl or opponent. Can't please everyone.

I think you just figured out why we jumped Michigan St. when neither of us played. And the selection committee takes another hit to its credibility.
