This goes out to any *crest fan other than that over-obsessive banana lover Charger02. As stated prior to the first game of the season, I knew *crest would beat this SP team. They are better than the team we had this year for sure. But, don't break your arm patting yourself on the back about best defense ever. Just enjoy the state championship and don't go off the deep end. It's hard to compare football post early 2000s vs. what it used to be. There were some years where a team would lose one conference game (maybe the only game lost all year) and not make the playoffs. Now, we get to see 5-7/6-6 teams the first round or two.
So, I'm saying this for your own people who may have played on those teams in the 70,80, 90s....the 2014 defense was very good. But, your toughest game was against a mediocre team (as opposed to normal years). Your rival is 2a. You played FOUR other 2a teams (5 total including Shelby). Your conference was ovearall weak. RS Central even finished above .500 overall playing in that conference this year. You beat two 3a teams with a "good" offense this year. You can consider FV a third "good" offensive team if it helps your argument, but as stated on here they were not vs a pretty to very good defense. I guess you can say Shelby should be on the list as a fourth offense? Your opponents did have a 55% win percentage on the year (including SP twice). Not too bad - but all this talk about a great defense is relative. Defenses that see truly great offenses find out who they are real quick. If the best (only??) pass teams you saw all year were Shelby and Havelock, then you again benefited from the *crest luck in playoff scheduling.
Bottom line- this year's squad stepped up when they had to- and when it counted which is all that matters. But, those 94/96 teams yall had and saying this group better than those groups....that's a tough comparision.
