That may be, but there are threads like this for basically every injury our guys get. People still use Jarred Vanderbilt as an example of Cal's guys faking injuries, when he missed his entire first NBA season due to the injury he sustained here. At some point it becomes a boy cries wolf situation. It's so much easier to just give guys the benefit of the doubt absent any reason to believe there's something fishy going on.
Have you seen how teams pick on Perry? It is cringe worthy watching him get abused out on the court.
Great question! Unless the rules have changed, he is eligible for a medical redshirt if he played only in the first half of the season and participated in no more than 30% of the team's games. Considering that, he should be granted the medical redshirt, IMO.
Of course, with the courts, covid exceptions, NIL, etc, he may be able to play until he is 40!
I love KK, and I know he would play if he could; however, if KK or Lewis is your starting point guard next year, UK will be in trouble.
Pope needs to recruit the best available point guard for his system next year. If KK is okay with playing behind a portal guard, Lewis, and JJ at the 1/2 spots next year, then bring him back. If not, let him know that you support him if he gets the medical redshirt and help him find another destination. This has to be a business decision on all ends. If he's cool with being UK's 4th guard in the backcourt rotation, bring him back.

I have always been active jogging, running and walking. When I broke a bone in my foot, I was in a soft boot for 3 months and and then had PT and still was still having issues walking a year later. As others have said, the foot is very complicated!
For one Perry is a last resort PG he’s a SG all day to me. With KK you could still get an upperclassman PG and allow JJ and Lewis to come along slowly. As we have seen this year we have plenty of time for a lot of guys and depth is always nice, money talks. Plus everyone discounts having guys return that played in this system the year before, it will be invaluable teaching the freshman and new transfers.
Something as small as a bone spur or pain in your heel from back issues/nerve endings can cause so much discomfort you can’t even walk. Let alone play D1 basketball. I’m sure Kerr would play if he could. Dude showed heart on a broken foot. He’s playing if he could.
I honestly think the “ Calipari injuries” are long gone ! The injury that KK had was a 3-4 month healing time so if we get him back any sooner than that’s a bonus! Heck he’s even trying to get a medical redshirt to come back to play next year. Calipari players were trying to get out the door faster than trying to get in the door.
Could be, I think Lewis will surprise. It will also help him to have a vet like butler.
JV was definitely hurt. I think most of our players were hurt. Loved JV in high school all star game he looked great then he got hurt in that game. Don’t think he ever recovered. Wheeler just got his feelings hurt. The SS situation really got me. Cal should have told him to play or leave!! It wouldn’t have hurt us anymore. Just should never let another guy come here and just sit. DUMBEST THING EVER!!
How there isn't something in the contracts making what Calipari did fireable, is beyond me. Talk about a breach of ethics and honesty.
So you want two of them? At least with Perry it's safe to assume he's fine being a 12th man that's only used in case of injury.
Don't understand this thread...thought it was a given he was gonna be out a long time. Maybe even the season. Wasn't that being talked about after he got hurt? Don't think anyone was expecting him to be back by now.

It is crazy but the redshirt rule is DIFFERENT for college football now: The NCAA rule for college football players allows them to play in up to four games and still maintain their redshirt status. This rule change went into effect in 2018.
The term "medical redshirt" also leads to confusion given that it's a completely different set of rules unrelated to redshirting, and the NCAA does not use the trerm "medical redshirt." I get why we do it - both involve not playing and getting an extra year of eligibility as a result. But people end up hearing some rule or guideline about "redshirting" and apply it to one or the other it doesn't belong to. And of course, the football change confusing people because its changes don't apply to any other sport.

For the average Joe who isn't running and jumping and cutting and physically exerting themselves every day either in practice or games. Kerr knows he's not going pro unless it's overseas. if he can milk another year of NIL, then good for him. I'm sure missing the majority of a season isn't how he planned to end his career.
Unfortunately some of the distrust and conspiracy about every injury now, stems from the Cal era. Just the ones we actually know of now:…and his general “haven’t seen him” attitude
Wheeler was an “injury” but the reality was he quit on the team.
Hagans was suspended
Sharpe was…..Sharpe.
J.Vanderbilt was initially injured but the situation of play or not play at the end was dictated by his “people”
So on and so forth……
—-but no reason to feel this way towards the Pope era. He’s been pretty open about injuries. Kerr had a fracture. They take time. He’s no doubt also factoring if it’s worth the medical redshirt and a full year or just finishing the post season this year.

Nothing "minor" about a Jones fracture. Probably one of the worst injuries you can have in a foot. Known to be slow healing because of the lack of blood flow in that area of the foot.
I can't ever forget it, the guy literally QUIT on the University of Kentucky. Complete Panzie. No gumption.
