The day that we've all been waiting for since December 2016 is finally here! Tomorrow (July 27) is the official start of high school football season in Virginia and, I for one, am like a kid on Christmas Eve!!!

Which teams are starting tomorrow and which are waiting until Monday? I know EC Glass starts tomorrow at 8am.
Salem equipment tomorrow, practice Monday.

Lord Botetourt started early this morning. They're anxious to get going. Lots of potential on this team. It really is a short summer for HS football players anymore. Our camps used to be in August. LB starts up Aug 9. We used to start after Labor Day.

Lafayette Monday. Today is varsity tryouts, JV on Monday.

When I played practice started a week before Labor Day with game 1 the Saturday after Labor Day. No Friday games back then, no lights!

I didn't know Lafayette has actual tryouts. Must be nice to have the luxury of that many kids coming out for football. Do you know about how many kids try out? How many make the team?

Doesn't James City County restrict their varsity teams to 45 players?

Dinwiddie Monday
Springers start Monday. I talked to our head coach last weekend. What I took away from our talk..... The only thing we are lacking is tons of experience! I saw the kids up front and close... We've got some good sized linemen! There is TONS of confidence in the air on Beal St..............

Yes, that is the reason for the tryouts for varsity. About another 45-50 go to JV. Some of those come up as injuries, discipline or grades take their toll.
That's interesting. Why do they restrict the number of players? I've never heard of that being done before.
