NN??? I mean, what happened there

Philips??? How do you account for a 3a over an 8a with all the starters out - Phillips has to be in

GW??? Will they make it into the DS this season?

PR/CG??? Wherever you put PR, assuming CG wins decently next week and PR beats huntly, they have to be right next to each other, right

MS/LWE...winner the 2017 #1

What about Flyer...Actually, PC is simply the most confusing program in the state. so no big surprise.

The DS Panel is going to have to dig deep and soul search.

Surprised that WV lost to Lake Park. Waubonsie had tons of hype and talent going into week 1. Yes, I know people have said LP was decimated last year with injuries and played a lot of underclassmen, but a surprising loss for a possible DSR calibre team.

Prairie Ridge only surprising in that they put up just 7 points. Great defense out from both PR & CG. CG definitely in DSR mix IMO.

Phillips has to be top 3-5 right? Beating Loyola is a feat, doesn't matter who is in or out of the lineup.

Maine South #1 right now. I mean they shredded a great program in GBW. We will see how both respond, but Id think people that picked New Trier over Maine South in the Central Suburban South may be sweating over that selection as of now.

ESL maybe in contention for Top 10, but as JCHILLTOPPERS said, who is PC this year?

Definitely looking forward to seeing Phillips at Richards next Fri. Winner between Maine S and LWE will be my #1. Interested to see how East St Louis does vs Evangel Christian.

Was really impressed with Bolingbrook Friday. Nasty defense with great athleticism, and the offense mixed it up with the pass and run. Just need to clean up the penalties. DGS was a pretty solid team with a nice D.

are all locks for me.

LT really intrigues me, and NN as well. Davis to Calcagno can ride you through games alone, and they have other weapons...

Loyola is a giant ?? until I know when they are 100%

Obviously Nazareth intrigues me...

LZ can make a statement.

How can MC be a lock. They have done nothing to impress

I can't rank NN based on the come back win. If the Edwardsville QB doesn't go out they probably don't win. And 42 points in a half? I need to see them do more. Lots of teams can make statements this week.
Games to note for me this week.
MS vs. LWE
LZ vs. Montini
Naz vs. DeLaSalle
Cary vs. McHenry
Philips Vs Richards
PR vs. Huntley

God I agree, and I really think NN can make noise. I'm going to try and watch this game tonight. Still, can't have NN in.

LT and Huntly are very interesting to me. I wonder, if PR wins a narrow margin, and JCA hands WN a solid defeat if I can objectively get JCA in.

I'd like to see what PC does this week too. If that loss to Flyer turns out to be a good one, I can see PC having a chance to gain DS traction.

I'll be honest, I think Marist is my only lock and that's assuming they win. I canr remember who they play.

If PC is the real deal enter them into the 6A gaunlet.

Here's my quick take after Week 1:

Upside Surprises
Maine South....dominant performance at one of the toughest HS venues. Offense in mid-season form?
Phillips.....I don't care how many LA starters were out. We are talking about a 3A team knocking off an 8A power.
Nap. Central....how good is this team? Dismantled GBN in Carol Stream.
Lake Park....the biggest upset of the opening week? Some DVC followers were not as shocked as those outside the conference.

Downside Surprises
GBW....didn't see this amount of points scored on their defense at home.
GBN....is Peyton Thorne and the NC offense that good?
Waub. Valley....was LP overlooked by those outside the DVC?

I think these week 2 games will shed a ton more light on some of the focus teams and a better gauge on who is what etc.

Winner of MS/LWE has to be #1 in my mind anyways. Plus it could shed more light on GBW and their Defense status. if MS/LWE is a shootout high scoring affair - then maybe it is just that MS's offense that much head and shoulder ahead of the rest of the state. If not - then maybe there is real trouble on D in Glen Ellen.

WV/GBN - that might tell us a little more about NC Offense by way of comparison?. I noticed GBN ran it pretty well on NC to the tune of 160ish yards - but couldn't punch in the TDs. Not much passing game by GBN in the matchup. NC had a defensive score as well and didn't put up eye popping yardage totals on GBN.

LP/WWS - LP was very good last year but after the first few games caught the injury bug and went downhill being short a lot of starters and most of those guys were juniors last year. If LP defense can limit WWS and they put a lot of points up on WWS - then I think they going to win a lot of games in the DVC and be in the playoffs.

I think NC handles NV fairly easily based on the film I saw of NV vs MV,..but in fairness I haven't seen NC play yet this year.

Looks like the height and athleticism of the NC receivers was very problematic for the GBN secondary. One of the best receiving corp in the DVC which is scary when they have a pretty damn good RB too!

Yup. What's scary to me is that the DVC seems to be loaded with the offenses this year which means the teams that can get some stops and some turnovers will be the ones that come out on top.

I guess I'm more old school. I like good defense and scores like 21-17. Not shootouts with parking cones 7v7 style and scores in the 30's and 40's for each team. I mean look at that NN and Eville score!! That is some crazy stuff!! At least mug someone and take the 15 yard PI and regroup!!

Maybe after this week. Want to see consistency out of the offense. But NN on the other hand put up an impressive game against the #4 team in the St. Louis area (IL and MO). Sure 42 points in a half is a lot, but 7 in the 2nd half along with the offensive onslaught puts them in the convo for me. 53-49 is no different from 7-6, just the other end of the spectrum.

Someone is going to have to beat MS for me to not call them 1.
NC might have all the pieces for a two year run under QB
Phillips gets all kinds of respect
LWE may finally have adjusted to the merge
PR might be heading for snake eyes in Huntley
LP and CG in a wait & see mode
ESL has the horses for the long haul and few obstacles after Saturday
Marist is scary
LA will get their revenge, just not sure when
Homer Flosswood will always be in my heart because I get to say Homer Flosswood
JCA is gonna have to prove they can beat someone like LT to steal their spot
Can't stomach a team that gives up 42 pts in the first half so NN needs to tighten the screws (you like how I did that)
Naz/OPRF/NV/MC/PC in a mixing bowl
