- on the focus we put on baseball."

There is only one solution: GIVE MORE MONEY!!!

You can designate those dollars for Football if you wish - or another sport of your choice - but don't be pi$$ed about others' donation choices. Our Athletic Department is about as transparent as they can be about where the money is going - if you feel you need to check up on them.

The only way to give our teams a chance to win in this new era is that mean, mean - MEAN GREEN!

If you're poor or just plain stingy, get on back home and quit complaining.

I'm sorry, but the sad truth is....we could throw MILLIONS MORE toward football, and still not be competitive enough in the league we are in....to do anything significant.

I choose to put money toward something we not only can compete in, but win championships in. And that is baseball.

The baseball obsession is holding the entire athletic department hostage.
It’s a cultural hostage situation where a passionate minority + apathy from the majority = bad priorities that hurt the whole department.
OMG. You really don’t realize you are in the passionate minority do you? This is great. I promise you the majority of MSU fans don’t want to defund the baseball program and throw the equivalent of 3 nickels at football players.

And one other thing you can’t seem to get. We love MSU baseball and want it to succeed. That’s it. It’s simple.

Holy 17, you're stupid. If I chose to give a million dollars to the baseball team because I love baseball and want the baseball team to succeed, and don't like football, in no way does it detract from the football team. If I wasn't giving to the baseball team, the football team still wouldn't get my money. Your logic makes as much sense as aoc and her argument about Amazon getting a tax break from NYC.

This is akin to the narrative that individuals are who need to do a better job of reducing their carbon footprint to make the air and waterways cleaner.
Nope- the overwhelming focus actually needs to be on the corporations because their impact is significantly greater than individuals.

Or this is akin to the narrative that individuals are who need to donate to a politician so all the wrongs in society can finally be fixed.
Nope- the overwhelming focus actually needs to be on the corporations because their impact is significantly greater than individuals.

Me donating $100 a month to the athletics department is equal to me running that money thru a shredder and then using it to line a hamster cage. It doesnt change anything. It doesnt move the needle. There is no positive return for me as a fan.
The overwhelming focus actually needs to be on the corporations and super wealthy because their impact is significantly greater than individuals.

The game is being played by mega-donors. If corporations and the super wealthy dont want to donate more, cool. Its their money and they can do what they want with it. Blaming random common fans for there not being more money to hand out to players and staff is just dumb.

I just don't understand why these donors continue to fund buildings on campus, their selfishness is to the detriment of football. Why fund a building that will have your name on it for 100 years when you could sponsor the next great receiver out of South Florida, or at least until he hits the portal next year. Someone will probably rename that building anyway.

He’s (and you) is the one that’s mad. Not the baseball fans.
Correct. I’m having a great time enjoying the new season. Every once in a while I’ll look back over here and see those few acting like toddlers thrashing around on the floor because they aren’t getting their way.

I don’t like basketball but you have never seen me attempt to go on a crusade against it because I know some people like it and I would also be wasting my time. Just silliness.

You’re correct but his point is valid, just substitute the rich boys. He’s basically just saying the football boys need to give more, whoever they are, and atop

Funny thing is, the middle class can probably make a bigger difference in baseball.

To that point, @bulldoghair is trying to say we have some big focus on baseball…..well, no we don’t as an athletic department. The AD wants football and basketball. The baseball boys are footing that bill themselves.

I got to hand it to Bulldoghair. He is a consistent dumbass. World-class, knuckle dragging’ turd. I give money to the Bulldog Club. They can do what they want with it. Apparently, they view baseball at MS State as a valuable asset to the university’s image. They ain’t plowing up the Dude. I suggest you pedal your papers on a website that fu*king cares what you think.

@bulldoghair I'm guessing you weren't around when @missouridawg continued the shortened Covid baseball season all by himself on this here message board for at least 3 weeks.

It was one of the few fond memories I have during that dark, confusing, & stupid year.

What happens with all the money we get from SEC? Guarantee you the athletic department is extremely bloated with do nothings….just like the federal government the more money they get their hands on the more fraud and waste. Unlike many I don’t need a group of paid mercenaries for self esteem

The problem with the “ baseball is bad “ take is the simple fact that along with fan support , atmosphere, and our stadium, our budget buys a world class baseball program. Our budget if spent entirely on football still only buys us a bottom half of the SEC football program. I’d rather go to Omaha every year than go the the Weedeater bowl every year, but that’s just me.

Baseball has lost over 20MM since 2011 not counting the expense of the stadium… Baseball isn’t part of the SEC/ESPN media rights contract. Not sure why this is so hard to understand

So ESPN is just broadcasting the games out of the goodness of their hearts?

There is not a specific media revenue distribution designated for baseball just like there isn’t one for WBB, but that certainly doesn’t mean that those sports aren’t a part of the contracts.

Don’t confuse that a majority of baseball games are on ESPN+ and SEC network+. Those are typically done in house by those schools. While ESPN and SEC network will televise games it’s a non revenue sport through t the contract in a a similar mode as all Olympic sports.

I assume ESPN earns revenue on the non revenue sports since there are commercials during those broadcasts on the cable stations and there are a lot of people who pay for enhanced ESPN packages in order to watch non revenue sports.

Is that correct?

It’s a very small number of viewerships, especially on the plus net works I don’t see how they could. Even on the SEC network and family of ESPN networks the viewership is so low that the cost would have to be adjusted from revenue produced from football and basketball.

Our first, true national title. You're welcome. I was just foreshadowing...

ETA: I probably didn't go all the way into June... but we were definitely undefeated during that time.

Maybe they could get patches of their names on the jersey of the player they funded****

It's the cost of doing business. Not sure why this is so hard to understand.

Ok, but it’s not like ESPN+ is free public broadcasting. It’s a subscription service where viewers have to pay a subscription fee in order to watch.

I fully understand your point that football and men’s basketball are the main drivers of any media rights deal, but I promise you that conferences aren’t handing them the rights to other sports for free. ESPN made $150M last year on ESPN+ subscriptions alone, and it’s not like they don’t sell ads on those feeds.

I’d rather set my money on fire than give it to an 18 year old whom I’ve never met that will transfer because their feelings got hurt.

But if that 18 year old could help you win one critical play in an important game - one that could potentially open the door for a berth in the playoffs, maybe even the national championship, wouldn't you be willing to pay up for your alma mater. Don't you think it's worth the risk?

Think of all the worthless stuff you buy - stuff you don't really need to be happy in life. Material goods are insignificant and fleeting. An SEC Championship berth is forever.

Please give.
