I've mentioned before (a couple of times now) that I had Thanksgiving with a friend that works for Sexton. Has for several years now. When the whole fire Croom thing came up in discussion someone said "hey, we could get Fulmer." My friend did not hesitate one bit and said "Phil would take that job in a heartbeat...I'm dead serious he wants to keep coaching." I never thought in a million years we would actually be discussing this two days later. One other thing to add...I've emailed this guy twice today about Fulmer and I can't get a response. He takes his job serious and if something is being discussed he will not say a word. I personally think Jimmy is probably working this one hard. Fulmer is his client after all. But dear Lord don't let this one be true. I'm getting nervous we're going to screw this up.

The below was a post from genespage. The only thing that I call BS on (in the below story) is the fact I asked my buddy if he'd heard anything about the State job coming open and he said no. So I don't buy anything about it being in the works for days. But who knows.

That is what I'm hearing

"Here is the deal, A good friend of mine's dad is a big Ole Miss Alumnists, he is best friend's is Jimmy Sexton (Fulmers agent). Jimmy said there is about a 90% chance that this deal is done. Everything has been agreed upon they are just waiting on Fulmer to sign the contract and announce it. This will not be done until after tonight's game. Peterson was offered the job first but did not bite so Greg Byrne wasted no time and went to Fulmer. But this is not a deal that was done to just today. This had already been in the works. The agreement was a contract for 4 years, 12 million dollars. The money was donated from Leon Seals (President of Hancock Bank). He recently died and the money (12 Million) was donated to the school."

of the criteria laid out by Byrne.

Byrne said "<font face="Georgia" size="2">we're looking for someone with high energy, a passion for eecruiting, strong work ethic. Would be nice if they had an understanding of the SEC, although experience in the SEC isn't a prerequisite. We want somebody who has the intensity and the energy level to continue on what Coach Croom has built on and take it to a higher level for us".

I personally believe Fulmer's "high energy, intensity and passion" days are behind him.</font>

Correct.........GB didn't say "we're looking for someone with high cholesterol, and a passion for eating"

Alot of these situations are handled like this behind closed doors. I think Byrne thought that having a coach like fulmer available and willing wouldn't happen next year. So he pulled the trigger. You guys don't think that Ole Miss just started looking for a coach the day O was canned and just magically hired nutt 48 hours afterwards do you? Also, I don't get all the Fulmer hate going on. He can recruit. And contrary to what you may think, he can coach. TN was just ready for a change and didn't have a QB this year. Crompton was a bust. He just won the SEC east last year. And he would probably have more fire under his belly now that he's got something to prove. I personally think he'd be a great hire.
