The Gator Bowl sucks to me

Let me preface this by saying that no, I don't think that the Gator Bowl is a bad bowl. Yes, I am glad to be going to a bowl period, but screw that...we won eight games. We CAN afford to be choosy because our team earned that right.

For the Peach, I can drive. For the Gator, I would probably fly.

I don't like the Big 10. I don't want to watch a Big 10 team, and I don't want to watch MSU play a Big 10 team. Give me an ACC team any day.

Furthermore, the only bowl that I pre-ordered and took time out of work for was the Peach Bowl. And this was after doing much research where pretty much every "expert" in the field picked us to go to the Peach. This was after reading about Peach Bowl representatives in Oxford hanging out with our athletic dept. staff for weeks.

Yeah, I should have pre-ordered for the Gator Bowl too, but it still sucks for me.

I would just rather go to the Peach.

Going Bowling is a great thing this time of year and our team has done a great job in getting themselves in a position to go to a bowl. If we go bowling at the bowls close to us (Birmingham, Liberty, Music, Peach) we bring many more fans than we have got tickets for. Granted some of those bowls are not on peoples minds but at 5 and 7 last year we would of cut our balls off to go 6 and 6 and get one.

We are now 8 and 4 and looks like we will go to either the (Peach or Gator). The SEC and Bowls have it lose enough so that the bowls can pick who they want in some order after they all get together and swap hands. If you were in charge of the Gator bowl in this economic time who would you pick Georgia or US. The only way they pick us is if we tell them we will guarantee them X number of tickets to be purchased. I would suggest that we would send 7,500 more fans to the Peach than the Gator.

Plan and simple you can drive versus fly. If your going to the Gator you better get a Airline ticket now or that bowl ticket just went up $500 a ticket.

...I swore off flying altogether until the TSA quits molesting grandmothers and children.

Thanks, SEC, for screwing me out of going to the bowl game.

It's a traditional New Years Day bowl played in the state of Florida with a higher $$$ payout than the Chik-Fil-A Bowl. It's a shorter drive than Gainsville for a bowl we have never been to. A matchup with a Big Ten team sounds more intriguing than an ACC school. We haven't played a Big Ten team in 30 YEARS, yet we've been to 3 Peach Bowls in the last 17 years. I for one, would love an invite to the Gator Bowl.

for a meeting recently and loved it. The beaches , the old bars , A1A etc were all kinda laid back and a a nice change of pace. There is a hell of lot more to do for kids in the Jville area than Atl . Go stay on the beach and enjoy.

Again I don`t claim to know the area but I could see that if you took a little time and did a little planning there`s plenty to do and see.

in every way other than distance to Starkville. More money, NYD afternoon, Florida (even though JAX sucks), etc....

I like the idea of Atlanta because I want to do some other things there too (Falcons, etc..) but I'll be at either game. Plus the chick-fil-a bowl still has the perception that it is on par with the Music City/Liberty Bowl more so than the Gator, which is a good NYD bowl.

our fans are pathetic.

For years, the assumption was that MState fans don't travel well, and won't go to Bowl games. I don't where this came from, maybe from the 1963 Liberty Bowl in Philadelphia.

The critics dismiss the large attendance for the last four bowls sites we've gone to (Cotton, Peach, Independence, and Liberty), becauseare easy one-day drives for most State fans.

This is the chance to forever put that myth to rest.

Jacksonville is a fun city with a great nightlife. Cool stadium. Less Crime than Atlanta. Flights for two from Bham start at about $500. If you drive you can stop at my GrandMommy's house in Dothan and pick up some of her M&M Cookies. Gator, Chick FIl-A, Outback, who gives a ****.

592 miles from Jackson ms to Jacksonville, FL
382 miles from Jackson ms to Atlanta, GA

210 miles difference 3-4 hours difference maybe? Can still be driven in one day.

Plus its a bowl against the Big 10 which we haven't played in 30 years?? We have played the ACC several times over since then.

Then again its a bowl game, its like picking between the homecoming queen or the prom queen, who gives a ****...

Bowl payout doesnt mean ****. Ole Miss will get the same bowl payout we do this year. Just like we got the same as them last year.

Quit the annoying pity party and man up. Damn you crybabies.

Miami, West Virginia, Clemson, Texas Tech, Georgia Tech, North Carolina State, and North Carolina are some of the teams that have played in the Gator Bowl in the last 21 years.

I like the Chick-Fil-A Bowl, but the Gator is a really good bowl, too. Penn State and Michigan have been named as possible opponents. Big time programs with great fans and teams that are beatable this year.

Seems like some (me included) are really concerned more about convenience than the bowl itself. Might have to fly or drive farther. Would that bother you if we were playing in the CapOne Bowl in Orlando?

If we go to the Gator, be happy with the Gator. Figure out a way to get there, even if it's driving 5 more hours each way (from Starkville, only 4 hrs more from Jackson). I've made the decision that my family and I are going if MSU is picked for Jacksonville.

I had a great time at the Peach in1999. But I love for our team to break new ground. We have been to Peach and played ACC teams over and over. Playing Penn State or Michigan would be awesome. I don't want anybody inconvenienced, but I really hope it happens.

We have pre-ordered tix via Bulldog Club and will be going to whichever bowl it turns out to be. Living in Atlanta, I'd obviously love to save the money and go with the Chick-Fil-A bowl experience, which I already know and love.

There is, however, a lot to be said for getting some texture on our bowl game resume.

I know - easy for me to say, living so much closer to JAX. Still not looking forward to the gas/hotel bills, but with only a baker's dozen bowl appearances in our whole history... well, it's worth the extra hassle and expense.

Got to get the gettin' while the gettin's good.

If the current rumors develop into reality and we go to Music City, it will be a huge injustice.

That said, we will be there. We will be there with gi-freakin-normous chips on our shoulders, but we'll be there.

If we don't travel well to WHICHEVER bowl we go to, we can only expect the turnout to be used to justify future bowl decisions.

Gah. This is sickening. I hope it's all a bad daydream and we still end up in ATL or JAX, but this is so typical that getting bumped all the way to Liberty wouldn't surprise me at this point.

Hoping for Atlanta but Jacksonville hosts a great game. Downtown parade on NYE, then fireworks on the river (great view from downtown hotels). If you stay at the beach you'll have a great time as well. High rollers can stay at Amelia island or play TPC. St aug is a great place to stay and bar hop. Disney is 2 hours if you want to make a week of it.
We will represent well at either location, IMO.
