Guess it's that time of year to fire one up. Looking forward to the PGA TOUR season and working harder this year on my own game. Played more last year than i have in awhile and felt relatively healthy.

My major winners this year: Masters=Day
US Open=Spieth
British=Rose
PGA=Walker

Thought this was an interesting article about NA.

http://www.golf.com/tour-and-news/complicated-kevin-na-case-study-frailty-golfers-psyche

At last year's PGA Championship, Na approached Tiger Woods on the practice putting green and asked him to autograph a hat for Nam. Tiger knows Nam from junior golf and is well aware that he is a fixture in Korean tabloids for having romanced a well-known actress and a former Miss Korea, among others.

"Is Nam still getting a lot of ***?" Na recalls Woods asking.

Na replied that the hat was for Nam's latest girlfriend.

That was an acceptable answer for Woods: "If it will help him get laid, I'll do it." The two cracked up, leaving the hundreds of fans surrounding the green to wonder what was so funny.

Will Tiger pass on the Master's this year? Will he even play?

What will McIlroy's response be to Spieth?

What will Mickelson do with a new swing coach, i predict a win or two.

PGA is brutally strong now IMO. Should be a great and competitive season.

While Day, Spieth, and McIlroy are almost equally talented, I'm not sure Rory is as focused. When he's right, I think Spieth is the best, because he's the best putter in the world.

Way to go out on a limb with those major picks! LOL. Hard to disagree with any of them. I think Fowler breaks his major maiden this season. Either at Augusta or US.

Tiger doesn't play any majors this year. Will come back after FedEx Cup and play in wraparound events against lesser competition to get back into the groove.

US wins Ryder Cup in convincing fashion with Tiger as head cheerleader/asst captain. JB Holmes will be a key part of US win.

The anchored putter rule will be a molehill instead of a mountain as most players will adjust easily.

I will break 80 for the first time on something other than the old course at Jenny Wiley State Park.

I had never heard Chamblee say this once in his entire time on the golf channel until recently. He had always said Jack, id love to hear from him why he changed his mind.

“Longevity sanctifies an idea, a career, a relationship, a government,” Chamblee said. “In that regard, Jack Nicklaus’ career was so long – won major championships over 24 years, spanned three generations – but Tiger Woods dominated in a way that had never been done before, and will never be done again. So I think, at least in my estimation, that you’d have to give the edge to Tiger Woods as the greatest player of all time.”

By the way Chamblee is coming out with his own book this March. I actually think it will be good, he's a pretty strong golf historian for sure. He's trying to be like Crenshaw in that regard.

Masters=Fowler
US Open=Watson
British=Spieth
PGA=Woods

I'm hoping to play a lot more this year, time (money), will tell though. I'd love to shoot a high 80 this year, but I will have to play at least twice a week for that to happen.

I despise & kinda enjoy Chamblee at the same time.

I can't believe I'm saying this, but he's grown on me in a weird way over time...:flushed:

He's still a complete dbag, but he's entertaining & good to have around in his own way.

Kind of way I feel about him. He's kind of like Cowherd for GC. You listen just to see if he he's going to piss you off.

What kind of golf trips are available within a half day's trip? Don't want to drive 10 hours to play somewhere. Guys at my club are gonna try to plan something.

I've called olde stone twice and haven't gotten a return call. I'm guessing their stay and play package is no more once the economy picked up a bit.

A great place is Fairfield Glades, TN (Crossville,TN). About 3.5 hours from here. About 5 decent courses and you just stay in a villa. I have played those courses the last 15 year each summer.

I guess that depends on what part of the state you live in. I had looked last year at day trips like you are wanting to do. There were a few in southern Indiana, and that was about it.
I've still got a few places to play locally that I haven't done yet, but will absolutely mark them off my list this year.
I am hoping to take my first out of state golf trip this year as well. It's looking like VA Beach will be my destination. I'll just have to make sure to concentrate on the golf and try to ignore the planes.

Spieth will win one. Breaking through will be Koepka. Huge year for him. Big years and around leaderboards will be Kisner, Grillo, Lee, Gomez and Thomas.

Agree with Cawood -- not that expensive, good courses (scenic). Tennessee Mountain Golf is a good contact for villas, courses, etc. We have 24 that have been making that trip for 10+ years in Sept each year.

Olde Stone is really nice but play forward or you can really get beat up. I like Dale Hollow, Fall Creek Falls near Cookeville, Tn, or Gatlinburg CC for affordable rounds.

If you are going to plan a golf trip, then plan a golf trip. Williamsburg, Myrtle Beach, Pinehurst......don't sell yourself short if you want to get away.

Pinehurst can be done really inexpensively if you don't feel compelled to play the Pinehurst Resort courses. Which should be done at least once, but there are a ton of great highly rated courses down there. We for every year.

Yep.

And I left out Destin, which I can get a condo at n/c pretty much anytime, which helps on costs.

That's just it. I'd rather spend time golfing than driving to get there. When you have limited time (Thursday or Friday morning through Sunday), why spend more time behind the windshield than you need to?

Done Crossville, Pigeon Forge/Gatlinburg, Asheville, NC....Also check out Perry Park up near Carrolton? Last time I was there it was resort-ish and had 27 nice holes of golf.

let me know when you want to play, I can get with people and get some info for you. Also, if you have time, I am a member at Indian Hills here, you can play as a guest ($35) and I will not have to be with you.

Master - Speith (like to see Fowler if he is there.)

Us Open - Phil (he finally gets one) wildcard Koepka / Kisner

The Open - Day wildcard - Oosthuizen

PGA - Watson wildcard - Jimmy Walker (if he can avoid the blow up down the stretch)

Really think Patrick Reed and Jason Dufner have really good years. Reed has had some good finishes early and Dufner seems to be rebounding from his personal stuff. Lots of young talent who will be out there to prove they belong on tour with the big guns, should be a very good / competitive year, looking forward to it.

I look forward to the drive each year. We have a blast driving to Pinehurst. Just the camaraderie of being with my buddies who all live away from Lexington is great. Catch up, harass and make fun of one another, solve all the world's problems in a 6-7 hour drive makes it well worth it.

We leave early Thursday morning, get to Pinehurst in time for an afternoon 18 then play 36 on Friday and Saturday. Sometimes play 18 Sunday morning and then head home. You should try it.

Belterra:

Saturday: Golf, Pool, Casina, Steak, Racers, Casina.

Sunday: Golf, home by 3.

Or French Lick. Two great courses, but casino and restaurants are not as good as Belterra. Just be ready for sticker shock on the golf.

Fabian is very talented. Saw where Jamie Lovemark's name appeared on the leaderboard. Keep an eye on him this year. He is very talented but his career was slowed with a back injury.

Norman was the only redeemable commodity on Fox's U.S. Open coverage. They should fire everyone else.

I think Spieth has another strong year. I expect a first time winner in one of the majors. I don't expect Tiger to play much this year. Maybe a year to get fully healthy will get him to a respectable level again

As for places to golf. Kiawah Island has 4 fantastic courses other than the Ocean Course. Also there are some great courses around Charleston including Patriots Point, Links at Stono Ferry and Coosaw Creek. Charleston is around 9 hours from Lexington. So not too bad. Kiawah Island is about 40 minutes from the peninsula in Charleston.

Kiawah is golf heaven for sure.

On Tiger, I truly believe an entire year to heal body and mind in the end would help him. Problem is he misses it so much that the temptation seems to always bring him back too soon. And as much as I will be happy when I see his return date,I still deep down think this year off and maybe come back in early December at his tournament would be best for his golf future.

I'm still thinking he plays The Masters

Hit the new Titleist hybrid back in November. Seemed like something I may have to buy this spring. What new clubs are at the top of your list?

Callaway's new apex cf16 irons are the first iron to get me to even consider switching from mizuno. Long and forgiving.
