Golf Digest's Hot List issue came today. There's a new ball manufacturer called Vice. Have four or five different models. Can order a sampler pack. As cheap as $25/dozen for their premium offering.

Too lazy to read 100 internet sites so here is a question:

What is the difference for average players like myself between Pro V1 and the Pro V1x? I have always played the x, but just read that the Pro V1 is supposed to feel a little softer, and has a more boring trajectory off the tee (which I would very much prefer) while the Pro V1x spins a bit more, gets higher in the air and comes in at a steeper angle.

What do you guys understand to be the difference between the two?

Unless your swing speed is 95 or higher, it won't matter. Try the Callaway Chrome Soft, it is cheaper, lasts longer and performs almost as well. Bridgestone B330RX is good too, but it scuffs really fast.

My buddy bought some of them, they look cool chipping and putting, but they are hard to see with leaves around. Hard to see them hitting the ground and on the green as well.

Got a deal on playing Pinehurst #2 for $100.00 for anyone that played in the Carolina's CGA interclub last year, but we are suppose to play the 11th, high is 38 with 20 mph winds. I am guessing, I won't play.

A layup on 17 in regulation would have won it for Rickie, but you would never expect a drive to go through the green. Pretty tough loss.

True but not a smart play. Everyone was going 3W on that hole. With his wedge game hit it close then throw a wedge close for birdie or easy par. 2 up with 2 to go just be smart.

... except he went for that play in sudden death and put it in the drink. It's easy to 2nd guess but no one expected him to hit driver 360 yards (unlucky hitting the downslope) on 17 to get it wet.

He should have buried that bird opportunity on 16 to go up 3. Real surprised he missed that one.

He had been driving the ball 340 on some holes. Hindsight, but driver was a major mistake on 17. That said, I love Matsuyama's game. He's a little too deliberate for my taste but he has a swing that will hold up.

Spieth with a cool 79 yesterday. Villegas leads at -8 with a 63. Will be interesting to see the round Spieth comes back with today.

Mickelson oh so close last week.

Rory melts down after opening with an eagle to tie for the lead, Adam Scott chips in for birdie to tie for the lead on 18, but Bubba Watson outlasts the kid no one ever heard of (Kokrak) to win for the 2nd time in three years. Kokrak can absolutely crush a golf ball, can't believe he will be an unknown for long.

Last week at Pebble, this week at Riviera . . . where do I sign up to join the Cali leg of the PGA tour? Two really sweet tracks I would give my right nut to play.

Kokrak was a Nationwide Tour star and his power is what makes him a threat. We'll see if his demeanor will allow him to consistently be at the top. The 17th, a drivable Par 5 at Rivera, was key yesterday. He may have had a slight mental breakdown there.

On Daly, he has commented many times about his sexual prowess. He says long off the tee is not why they call him "Long John Daly." What a piece of work he is.

^Yeah, was just reading that. Can't stand or sit for periods of time. Might be looking at a complete shutdown.

Sucks  Was really hoping he be back late in the year and even spend some booth time this summer.

Multiple reports of his condition. I'd say it's pretty accurate. Secret Tour Pro broke it, if I'm not mistaken.

Good PHIL article.

http://www.golf.com/tour-and-news/e...our-and-what-sets-tiger-apart?page=2&simple=1

Let's talk about the current state of the Tour. Tiger, of course, is not playing right now. Can golf return to the level it was when Tiger was at his peak, when the two of you were going head to head? Can that happen without Tiger on the course?

I don't think anybody really knows. But we have a lot of great young players in the game. And if you look at the top four right now, with Jason Day, Jordan Spieth, Rory McIlroy and Rickie Fowler, those four guys are quality -- quality people, too. They represent the game well. They're wonderful guys to be around. And they have remarkable games.

But there is nobody in the game of golf that I have seen that is remotely close to the level of performance Tiger was in his prime.

Mentally, short game, or ball striking, I don't think anybody matches him in any of those areas. And Tiger put them all together in one to create a career that is mind-boggling.

So it's difficult for me to see the game of golf returning to the level that it was at during his heyday without somebody like that. And as great as the young players are, the level that I've seen out of him, especially when you go back to 2000 at the U.S. Open and his performance when he held all four major championships at once, I think we're decades away from anybody getting back to that level.

Former UK golfer (and my cousin) Mark Blakefield (was on same team as JB Holmes that won the SEC) qualified for the Honda Classic this weekend. Good luck to him. Been on the Nationwide Tour for awhile with a couple strong performances there. Always like to see UK guys play well but this even moreso since he is family.

That sucks if Secret Tour Pro broke it. I love his stuff. May have to take it with a bigger grain of salt since Tiger released the video today.
