Watching School of Golf on the Golf Channel. Always good points on that show.

Hit the new Titleist hybrid back in November. Seemed like something I may have to buy this spring. What new clubs are at the top of your list?
Bought a new Titleist 5 wood 915 last fall. Easily the best wood I have ever hit. Did not want to spend $250 for it but I tested everything and never hit a club better in my life.

About golf trips. Kiawah in SC is amazing but expensive. A great resort in Myrtle Beach that has some Dye courses is Barefoot Resort. They run really good group deals. Worth checking out.

Dechambeau leads in Abu Dhabi with a -8 on first day.

Stenson -7
McIlroy -6
Speith -4
Fowler -2

European Tour officials didn’t waste any time putting the circuit’s new slow play policy to work, doling out a “monitoring” penalty to world No. 1 Jordan Spieth on Day 1 at the Abu Dhabi HSBC Golf Championship.

Spieth’s group, which included Rory McIlroyand Rickie Fowler, was informed they were being monitored by John Paramor, the European Tour’s chief rules official, as they walked to the fourth tee (the group’s 13th hole of the day).

Under the circuit’s new policy, which was announced at a players’ meeting on Tuesday, a player has 40 seconds (with an additional 10 seconds if they play first) to play a shot once they are informed they are being monitored.

On the eighth green, officials said Spieth took more time than what is allotted to hit his putt and he was told on the ninth tee that he’d received the penalty.

“It didn’t make any sense to me,” said Spieth, who opened with a 68. “It didn’t affect the round, but Rory and Rickie were surprised as well.”

Spieth said he planned to talk with officials about the penalty after his round. Under the tour’s slow play policy two monitoring penalties will result in a fine (about $2,800).

“It was a bit of a weird one,” McIlroy said. “Sometimes the refs have to use common sense. With the time we’re allowed if you take an extra look at a putt you’re over the time. But if we’re in position [relative to the group ahead] there’s no reason to time us.”

Paramor explained to reporters on Wednesday that the new policy will allow officials to single out slow players for penalties instead of an entire group.

Pace of play on the European Tour is measured by whether a group keeps to the starting interval between groups, rather than if they are on the same hole, as it is in America,” Paramor said.

Glad to see them do something about slow play but seems like they want to make an example of Jordan to send the message. And $2800? That's barley enough to get Phil out of bed in the morning.

They definitely need to address slow play. The big problem with it is that people watch the PGA and then think they are professionals and duplicate what they see on TV. It's way too often that I am at a local course here in Lexington and see a group of guys in their designer golf shirts, white pants, white belts, etc (to look like their favorite golfer) and they walk around the green for 5 minutes before they putt. Drives me nuts when I'm out playing a round. No way it should take 5 hours to play a round of golf.

Nothing worse/funnier than a lengthy pre shot routine followed by a 10 yard worm burner.

Rickie Fowler with a big time win this weekend beating both Spieth and McIlroy among others. Pretty strong statement. I believe he is the first ever player to win with high tops and jogger pants.

Dufner pulled one out of his ***. Got very lucky on 17 being able to play that shot off the rocks, ball had every right to go in the water or be unplayable. Still , he nutted up and made a clutch 12 footer in the playoff.

Mickelson looked great, as Johnny Miller said, it wouldn't surprise me to see him win one of the next 3 tournaments.

I don't take a practice swing, I know damn well what I'm getting ready to do. I'm not scared of it, I don't think it's special. Walk up there and hit it. I'll play anyone in this thread for 10 bucks a hole. 20 for a birdie or better. I'll even play you at your home course of Wildwood. Not talking to anyone in particular.

Straight up?

Too lazy to read 100 internet sites so here is a question:

What is the difference for average players like myself between Pro V1 and the Pro V1x? I have always played the x, but just read that the Pro V1 is supposed to feel a little softer, and has a more boring trajectory off the tee (which I would very much prefer) while the Pro V1x spins a bit more, gets higher in the air and comes in at a steeper angle.

What do you guys understand to be the difference between the two?

I always chose V1x for less spin off driver, thought V1 had more spin and control around greens. Since i have a better short game than long i figured it would help me more using V1x to keep my drives straighter.

Here is something i just found:

In this case, the combination of the uniform, solid core, and the increased dimple pattern of the Pro V1 produces a golf ball with greater spin control, and a more consistent ball flight. On the other hand, the dual core and reduced dimple pattern of the Pro V1x results in a ball that provides for higher, and later, peak trajectory and a very low degree of spin off of the driver and longer irons. So while the Pro V1 is more ideal for golfers with slower swing speeds who want greater ball performance consistency from tee to green, the Pro V1x is more suited for golfers with a higher swing speed who are looking to put a greater emphasis on distance and overall spin reduction.

So when determining which of these two titans of the golf ball world is better suited for your game, it’s important to consider whether your ultimately looking to achieve greater control and consistency or increased distance and reduced spin. If consistency is what your game needs, tee up the Pro V1; and if distance is the edge you need, we suggest trying the Pro V1x. Whichever you choose keep in mind that it’s hard to go wrong with either ball. Both have proven to consistently outperform most every other ball on the market in just about every dimension (which is why they cost about twice as much). Just remember, you get what you pay for, so if you’re ready to step up to the Pro V1 series, we suggests first considering how each will play into your swing, and then taking handful of the Pro V1’s and the Pro V1x’s out on the course and see which performs better for your game.

That is very helpful, I just turned 55, doubt that I would be considered high swing speed, I may try the Pro V1 this spring and see how it goes.

ProV1s don't last near as long as the V1x for me. My wedges absolutely eat up the V1.

Those team USA shirts are sweet.

I'm enjoying watching this right now. Conditions are just brutal. Snedeker just called it playing a US Open layout with British Open weather. He shot a 69 in what may be the best round of the year. He's 1 back but is in the clubhouse. Walker and Choi are the co-leaders but they have the hole back 9 to play. That's how far ahead of them Snedeker was.

Suspended for weather had to make the leaders happy and piss Snedeker off.

Finishing up the Torrey tourney today at 1. You can watch online at the golf channel website if you have an account to watch through twc or another provider.

Spieth didn't have it this weekend. That's the type of field i expect him to win by 5 or more.

Actually you have to pay for that but it is free on CBS Sports website both regular and mobile

Just got finished reading "An American caddie in St.Andrews"...Not a bad read about looping the OLD Course and life in the St.Andrews area.

Definitely makes me want to take the plunge and play there before I take the dirt nap.

Watching the replay telecast of the Waste Management tourney last night while trying to doze off was kind of interesting. Seeing Aaron Baddeley up there in the top five made me think back to when he first turned pro. I thought now this dude may be able to hang with Tiger, has all the tools in the bag. Uh, no. Had almost forgotten all about him. Seeing David Toms have a solid round was nice, Ricky Fowler is really, really striking the ball well. He has a lot of Phil in him in the fact that he is definitely pin seeking. No lay up in his thought process. H. Matsuyama was absolutely knocking them stiff. Hell of a round, will be there all weekend.

Did anyone see Eldrick the robot thingy ? Its a robot and it made a hole in one. Pretty damn neat / weird watching a damn mechanical robot hit a tee shot some - yards and hole it. Science.

I don't get real annoyed by much, so Bubba's antics while i may post about them, don't get me all riled up one way or the other. I will say he does absolutely nothing for me in terms of me being a fan. Rory does nothing for me. I like Rickie because he's a solid kid.

Dechambeau intrigues me, hope he stays good because i can see myself pulling for him.

What are the odds that two different Eldrick's make a hole in one on that hole?

But can the robot putt? Would like to see the robot play a Par 4 just to see what happens.

Angel Jimenez is just a cool *** cat. Absolutely love that guy. He is about the only across the pond guy I openly cheer for, sans Jason Day. I can't remember which one of the young guns tweeted out (maybe Duffner) one year at the Open "Just watched Angel stroll down the beach with two women and a bottle of wine, what a pimp." or something to the effect.
