That's not a loaded question. I'm just wondering if anyone has actually met Keenum, because I've never talked to a person who has. I'm starting to wonder if he really exists.

about all these internet Keenum supporters. Nobody knows him. Apparently, a few years as an Ole Miss cheerleader's right hand man, followed by a stint as an assistant sec of ag qualifies you to lead an SEC school. He went to school here and loves State, I guess that's supposed to be good enough.

why would you not want him?

If so many State people want the guy, I don't see that as a bad thing.

is like Croom was for many of us.

I can remember thinking, "how the F did this guy, with zero college head coaching experience, get the job???"

Let's hope Keenum turns out better than Croom has.

He taught a class one semester in the Ag Econ department and I also received the scholarship thats in his honor so yeah I know him pretty well. There wont be a better person in there that has a bigger interest for whats best for MSU than Keenum.

I personally have met very few of the people I've ever voted for. I simply have to work off of what I know from listening and talking to others.

Keenum has been selected? The Tupelo paper said this morning the selection would likely be next week.

both when he was a phD candidate back in the late 80s and after he went to Washington. I remember him teaching a few undergrad classes. Good mind, good people skills.

In Washington, I was struck with his smooth, calm, folksy demeanor. He can turn on the charm (hint, helluva fundraiser). I remember thinking that he fit in very well in that scene and excelled, as many southern fried politicians do. As long as we've got to live with a UMiss heavy IHL, what's wrong with having a guy at the helm who has propped up one of their native sons for damn near three terms? They know Keenum is a straight up guy.

As I have posted before, Keenum will be very, very good on the alumni/fundraising side. Probably exceptional at that. I really don't have any idea how he'd be with faculty. And speaking as an alum who owns no birkenstock stock and doesn't give two runny ***** about the daily plight of college professors, I couldn't care less about that issue.

for the same reason I'm not for him. I don't know enough about him.

There's one primary reason State people want him - he went to school here. In fact, take Mark Keenum and make him a grad of any other school in the south. He wouldn't be an attractive candidate then, he probably wouldn't even be considered.

If he gets hired, I'll support him and hope for the best.

the Keenum bandwagon began building momentum when Charles Lee was hired mostly b/c he is such a heavy hitter in Washington in the ag arena. I think the fact that he went to state and loves the school became a factor after the Fogleson debacle and aftter the IHL also tried to get that moron from Southern Illinois that got FIRED months after we hired Doc. It's also a factor b/c its widely believed that Gary Miller is a member of the loyalty foundation. But make no mistake, those that think highly of keenum do so b/c of what he's done in his career as much or more than b/c of the fact that he went to state. Hell, its been reported that A&M offered him the VP of Ag recently....but what do they know about Agriculture?

has put together a distinguished career, no doubt. However, he's a State guy with a distinguished career and that's what counts to many.

Like I said, I'll support him and hope for the best. By the way, don't be shocked if an announcement is made very soon. Even today.

Another thing about Keenum is that his wife is just as much a heavy hitter as he is. She was a high level White House official in W's first term and was Karl Rove's top deputy. The were/are considered the ultimate Washington "Power Couple".

being a Rove deputy is such a good thing anymore.

People that know her tell me Keenum's wife is very dynamic and will make a great ambassador for the University.

I was at State w/ Dr. Z., & I am still of the opinion that he was a once in a lifetime man for that position. We just won't find many people that were as personable as he was, nor had the respect he did statewide.

I have been approaching this search like I would a presidential election, I support the office of the president, & no matter who gets elected, they are bound to do something right, & I will support them on that, but when they do wrong, I will blast them also (of course I believe in democracy & not socialism). So based on that mindset, all I wanted for the next MSU president was: 1.) a MSU alum, 2.) young w/ the opportunity to stay at the position for a while if he is doing a good job, 3.) proven people skills, which I think will lead to a unique ability to deal w/ all the factions that exist in a college campus setting.

&, as far as the faculty issue, if they have a problem today w/ Keenum, I think it will be non-existant a year from now. There is nothing to indicate he would not find the happy meium b/w students, faculty, & alumni.

I don't think Keenum is the lesser of evils, but he sure isn't Lee or Foglesong

So there's at least 1 MState alum who actually knows him. He's also a huge Keenum supporter and says he'll be great for us. He'll provide the leadership we've lacked since Dr. Z retired.
