If she is, I'm 70 and McCain is 150.

Why not award 2 golds? The tiebreaker rule is a cluster.

You can't bring the whole "child exploitation" thing either because these kids including Phelps start training in the womb pretty much anyway.

are plucked from parents and schools at 3 to begin a life of pretty much forced training(usually works in their favor). The same training they start at 3 is what our gymnasts do not start until they are 10. No way we should be able to compete with them...yet we do. Phelps didnt jump into a pool until 7 and did that to learn "swimming safety".

Yall see where the red govt made the chinese coaches sign a contract saying they will not allow any of their gymnasts to become injured? WTF?

...and sending a bill for that bullet to the family, is a very powerful motivator for the gymnasts and their coaches to win gold.

It's a good thing for McNickle that we didn't include that clause in his contract.

Phelps' mom got him into swimming at 6 or 7 to give him an outlet for his ADHD. It wasn't until he had been swimming a little while that someone realized his potential.

The Chinese take children from their home at 3 or so & they go live at a "special athletic training" school. They see their families for only a few days a year. Their academic education is secondary to their athletic training. If they fail to succeed as adults, they are tossed aside.

But, yeah, it's all the same regardless of what country.

That sounds nothing like football and basketball in the U.S.A.

Just to be clear, I do agree with your overall post. Just found that part of it to be a little ironic.

For a guy that likes to at least pretend to be so homophobic, you might want to start ignoring women's gymnastics. Next thing you know, we'll be getting comments from cb9 about who got screwed the previous night on Dancing with the Stars.

Edited to add: Maybe uscreb was right in his psychoanalysis of you. Maybe you are just in the closet, and this is just a hint about the true cb9.

The U.S. affords opportunities for those people "tossed aside" to get an education after the fact. There are still opportunities for that individual to become a success. Sure, it most likely won't be easy because that individual will be behind, but it can be done and it is done everyday. China as a communist regime does not afford those same opportunities. If you miss your shot as an athlete, you are done.

Another difference is that usually (not always), the parents of the children in the U.S. encourage the athletics at the expense of education mentality. Chinese parents don't even have a choice in the matter.

These kids are way too young to be competing in the olympics; they should be hanging out with kids their own age, making shoes for our athletes.

All the "star" high school and college football and basketball players who never make it in the pros and wind up in the gutter had every opportunity in the world to do better for themselves and just didn't take advantage of it.

It is different in Communist China where they use people and discard of them wantonly. I'm just saying everybody starts young.

and still loves to watch it. According to her, gymnasts are more limber/flexible when they're younger. Because they're more limber, it's easier for them to do hard skills and have good form while doing the harder skills. Plus, as NBC commentators made a point, when they are so much younger, the pressure doesn't seem to affect them as much, probably because they aren't old enough to realize the stage they're on. So, less pressure from self + more flexibility = big advantage.
