I Was told yesterday that JCA has 58 frosh in camp this summer. Supposed to be a pretty talented group. I would not be surprised to see 10-15 of them playing on soph team.
That's great news for JCA, obviously they needed it too.

USD,

I think PSSJ's comment is probably a good description "hybrid" and why there might be confusion. Sophomores can play in this game prior to each weeks varsity game without restrictions, other than quarters of total play. If a Jr. or Sr. plays in this game they would not be eligible to play in the varsity game later on that evening. This is my understanding of the way things have been setup and will proceed this season. This in effect is therefore not a Sophomore team and actually JV in my opinion.

If playing in the JV game voids your eligibility for the Varsity game why would you play them on Friday night instead of Saturday morning? Getting as many kids as possible involved in the JV is much better for a program then holding kids out because they may be needed.

That type of setup will not keep upperclassmen out.

In Southern Illinois, JV/ Soph games are played on Monday.

Clown,

Who said anyone was being held out that would play in the varsity game. If you are not a player that will typically play In the varsity game then you'll play. If you're a freshman or sophomore and you're needed on varsity as long as you didn't exhaust your max quarters you can play. If you happen to be a Jr. or Sr. playing on JV it's just unlikely you will be needed in that weeks Varsity game and its more important to get game snaps at your position than not. Again outside of Illinois if you speak of "sophomore football" people will tilt their head and say what's that...oh you mean a second year of freshman football, and then break out laughing!

MC140,

Is that a question? Please explain what you mean, it's not designed to keep anyone out but rather give all a chance to play at a "varsity level" rather than a silly second year of Freshman football.

That type of setup will not keep upperclassmen out.

Numbers are an issue at most places. Juniors and Seniors will not want to play if they only play with the Sophomores in the game before the Varsity on Friday night. While most of those kids will not help on the Varsity in Friday night games, they are needed for practice. A Monday game and still eligible to play on Friday is a different story.

MC,

You are entitled to your opinion but my experience and opinion differ. As a side note there is certainly no rule against any team exclusively using their sophomores.

To be on the same page you are saying 21-0 is a blowout correct? Naz had a kid rush for 200 plus yards and they threw for just under a 100. Are you guys saying if healthy, they have another back rush for 200 which would total 400 yards rushing. Or maybe they throw for an additional 100 plus giving them 600 yards of total offense compared to their actual game stat of 337 total yards. Are we saying that the scoring of 14 pts in the first, 6 in the third, and 6 in the fourth could have easily been 14 each quarter? Not sure what they averaged during the season, maybe 400 plus but, typically in the state game teams are held below their average. In the end, it's not that important. I gave my opinion and so far it hasn't changed. If there is something out there that I am missing (a certain kid didn't play or a certain kid didn't play a certain position due to illness) I will be happy to adjust my opinion. Otherwise it seems that we have some over excited fans that are putting the world champ title on this team. Not Epic specifically overall but when you take a step back and read this thread, it seem pretty cocky to me. If everyone is so confident, why not petition to repeat as 6A champs? I wont get into the 7A/ 8A discussion. How about just challenge yourself to face Montini, SHG, PC, CG, etc?

Considering the magnitude of the game, 21-0 is getting handled pretty well.

I also am merely talking 2014 also. That team as mentioned was a generational squad. This were head and shoulders above ALL the 6A competition.
