Look

If NIL doesn’t seem to be an issue, what seems to be the biggest issue for Kentucky missing on ever top recruit they seem locked in on?
JMI requiring the players to sign over the rights to their outside NIL. Meaning a player can't go out an get other NIL opportunities outside of JMI collective and JMI gets ownership of that player's NIL once the player is paid. Seems to be a HUGE roadblock as no other team in the country is requiring that.

Just my opinion of course. I would say 0%.

I feel he hat toyed with Kentucky worse than Caleb Wilson.
He did! After reading that KSR expose’, I’m sure Stokes and his camp had to take showers to wash the cringe off… Used/ Using UK’s overblown NIL perception to up the real offers, hence Vanderbilt.

I know ripping on Pope is the thing to do right now and I've critisized him a few times too, but Pope did more last year with a busted up ragtag bunch that he threw together at the last minute than Cal did with a roster full of future NBA players in 2017/18. Heck, SGA was on that team and he’s the current NBA MVP.

Just build a team that meshes together. If you can get a transcendent guy, get him, but don't bring in 2nd tier burger boys and make them the center piece. Cal went to that stupid well way too many times.

If he can get a Stokes type talent, great, but he can't be the leader.

Last year was a good job for the time he had and the patchwork he put together. But last year was last year. He has to show he can be a dog now and he's not. The recruiting stuff coming out by Jack Pilgrim is extremely alarming.

Chris Beard thinks Travis Perry is a good player.
Beard wanted Perry to sign on shooting ability. Probably for a bench piece to use junior senior year. He’s not someone he took for a major role. Beard is one of the best coaches in the country. He does more with less than anyone in the league. That guy with UK’s brand and resources would absolutely hang banners. He’s an excellent motivator.

Pick any "loaded" roster you want in the country. Any. Who do you want? Purdue, Duke, Houston? Let me subtract 3 starters including their best player who is a top 5 draft candidate and their PG. Then telll me how they look dude
This was true early on. Or might have been true early. We did have some injuries but now it’s clear with what’s come out THAT IS NOT THE PROBLEM.

I’ve already taken that into account. It’s not the issue WAKE UP.

At this point he almost has to land Stokes. Has to give BBN something to be excited about next season not just portal scrubs.
Landing him is only the first hurdle, hanging on to him is an even bigger hurdle, especially with the drama surrounding this kid AND the crap year we're having.

Didn't need him anyway. Garrison decided to forgoe the NBA, involuntarily.
Still curious as to why you don’t think Barnhart should be fired I can give an entire list of reasons I was wondering what your list would be for keeping him.

If they are trolls for having their side of things, are you a troll for having your side? You called someone sheep yesterday for their views. Does that mean you're a sheep for your views?
Troll and sheep are lighter than what I have been called bud

Right, but my point was, don't just get a kid that is a 5* just because he has length and athleticism, it has to make sense. That kid ain't going to be any good until he's long gone from here.

I feel like Pope would be in even deeper sh*t with a kid like Stokes. If he is at a loss with BG, Stokes will tie him into a knot.

Like I said, get guys that mesh together and for the love of God, please put more effort into point guards.

They finished 24-12 and in 8th place in the SEC. Let's not re-write history and act like last year was some major success.

Then they also need to stop calling for his head and saying he cant recruit. You can't have it both ways
I’m just looking ahead. Let me ask you. Are you not worried the Pope hasn’t signed a single recruit for next year? You are good with that? There isn’t many guys left.

can he field a team with just transfer guys ? Sure but that seems risky.

Honestly, JQ wanted to come to Kentucky originally until Arizona State gave him a boat load of money. I do not think Pope had much to do with him coming back. He had already committed once, so I would need another example of Pope getting a High Caliber recruit.

I think he does need to be fired based on the coaching searches, though I do agree that this NIL thing is way out of hand, goes against the idea of "student athlete" (where you earned a scholarship or paid your own way), and that a coach SHOULD be able to convince players that UK is a place they want to be.

I guess if you choose to look at it with that kind of mindset, sure, cool, have at it.
But didn't that team beat more top 25 teams than anyobe in the history of the sport?
I refuse to allow the injury excuse this year, but last year, I think it's fair to talk about it. That team was injured all year long, key guys too.
They swept Tennesee, beat 2 FF teams and beat the eventual national title winners.
I'm willing to give Pope his flowers for last year, there's no need to rub his nose that deep in dog poop, he did a lont of good things last year.
However, this year, is a disaster and I think we can all agree this was a concern of ours, both when Pope was first hired and after we got to know how really, really corny and overly positive he is.
But again, he deserves credit for what he did last year.

I am not the one with my head in the sand defending this staff. They showed me enough last year that I thought this was a train wreck waiting to happen. I just hope we can put the pieces back together once this run away train comes to a stop. Ohio State is a football school that does not care about basketball. I hope he proves me wrong but it when it looks like a duck, walks like a duck, it is usually a duck.

I’ll be honest, I’m so tired of hearing about how great last year was. We were 24-12 and 10-8 in the SEC for a 6th place finish and was blown out by Alabama in the quarterfinals of the SEC tournament and blown out by Tennessee in the Sweet 16. Wish we’d save the superlatives for when we actually have a decent season and not a mediocre to average one.

You guys realize Rutgers had two lottery picks on their team last season, and missed the tournament. Calipari had five 5 star recruits on the 20-21 roster, and went 9-16.

Pope just over estimated this particularly roster. Hopefully he learns from it.

I do agree you need one dominant player every year, but, weren’t we all thinking that Oweh was that guy? And if JQ got healthy, he would be another dominant type of player?

And with the rumored issues with this year's team, I am sure Pope doesn't want any more drama.
He doesn’t have a choice at this point. His team lacks talent. His recruiting is bad and next years team looks even less talented than the first two.

With that said, he couldn’t land Stokes even if he went all out.
