The Level of Excitement Over this Win

It’s generally good to appreciate positive moments in life.
Anything that helps MB make the case for Pope getting another year isn’t a positive moment in life. I stopped watching the Cats during the last few years of CCC. Now, they are possibly worse under Pope. I think there are more positive moments in life when we pay attention to truly meaningful things, not lackluster UK basketball.

Can we stop saying we are IU?

In the last 4 years, Kentucky has been a 2 seed, and a 3 seed twice in the NCAA tournament.

Indiana hasn't been seeded that high since 2013 and has completely missed 7 of the last 9 NCAA tournaments.

Since 2013, Kentucky has been a final four in 2014, then a 1 seed, 4 seed, 2 seed, 4 seed, 2 seed, 2 seed, 6 seed, 3 seed, 3 seed.

Morons like @Guyute calling us IU are f*cking clueless.

Our fanbase is 100% IU. It not only continues to think UK basketball is relevant and will contend for national titles going forward, but also seems to be content with failing to so and floundering in mediocrity.

I’m nearly to the point of not being a fan at all. Between Cal’s last five years, the disaster that is Mark Pope, the current climate of college athletics, and the cringe portion of the UK fanbase - it makes sense to just stop paying attention. For the record, I live overseas and haven’t watched a live game for some time. But yeah, seems UK basketball is a waste of time, as is jumping on this board. Life is short and there are much more enjoyable ways to spend it.
Don’t think anyone will miss you if you don’t come back. Win for you, win for us. Just saying.

We can be unhappy with the way this season has unfolded without making moronic statements comparing us to a program who has completely missed 7 of the last 9 NCAA tournaments and hasn't been nationally relevant in 30 years.

The only reason we’ve been relevant for the last ten was because Cal could recruit. We’re more known for our NBA guys than for being a good basketball school now. And we’re not going to have many NBA guys going forward. So the very thing that has made UK relevant for the last decade is going away.

So what part of what you just said makes us equivalent to Indiana?

Did we not set an NCAA record for Top-15 wins last season? We were a 3 seed in the NCAA tournament.

We had a NPOY like 3 years ago.

Please, do us all a favor and go root for anyone else. Since 2021 we have been better and more relevant than every other Blue Blood not named Duke. UNC was in the damn play-in game last season and lost in the first round by 100 points. The year before, UNC missed the tournament completely. Kansas was a 10 seed and lost in the first round, the year before they were a 7 seed and lost by 100 points in the 2nd round. UCLA and IU are footnotes.

We have been the 2nd most relevant blue blood in the last 5 years.

It's still not good enough and not up to our standards, but making idiotic statements comparing us to IU is just stupid and emotional, and I'd be thrilled for you to go root for someone else.

Do you understand that UK is the team that everyone is laughing at now. We’re actually most relevant for how awful we are. And for how blind and pathetic the cringe portion of our fanbase is. Do you only run in circles with other UK homer fans?

Yea, I sent him to ignore. Guy is trolling as hard as anyone I can remember in a while. Not worth wasting time on at this point.
I just don’t get it. Why is he so salty after a win? This whole thread started as a straw man argument he was making with himself. Weird

it’s pretty simple. It was an ugly game. But we won. That is preferable to us losing. If you disagree, I don’t know what to tell ya

and if you’re worried about the Mitch factor, don’t worry, he’s not giving pope an extension based on this one game

I’m a reds fan also. I desperately wanted David bell gone. But I was never actively rooting on them to lose so he’d get canned. And if they won a wild game in extras, yes I would’ve been excited. Idk why this is debatable

Dude you're an idiot. You haven't been able to refute one single fact, all you keep saying is completely emotional drivel.

I've given you now 3 posts full of complete and total FACTS, and you have not been able to dispute a single one. You just keep crying like this is your diary or something.

Get a grip.

1 - We won.
2 - At this point I’m hoping for anything that can provide some type of spark to both the players and Pope.
3 - A play like that can propel a kid like Moreno, who already shows a lot of promise, to go on to even bigger things.

It’s not a positive moment for you obviously but it might be for Moreno/Chandler or little kids watching the game.

We're down 2 of our 3 best players. We're probably not gonna have a terrific season. Enjoy the Ws and let's see if maybe we can get in as a 9 or 10 and win a game or two. Who knows.

If you're rooting for us to go 10-21 or something you're freaking weird. A. Pope isn't getting fired this year unless he's caught with an intern or something, B...you're weird.

You could make an argument for us being 4th most relevant since 2021.

KU beat UNC for the 2022 title. We haven’t been past the Sweet 16 in 7 years.

That was one of the most unlikely wins I can remember. In a month no one will remember how it happened and no one will care. I’d like to make the tournament. This was a must win if we want to build a resume.
What’s the point of making the tourney if you have no realistic chance of making noise? This is what I’m talking about when I compare our current fanbase to IU. We want to either win titles or be in contention to do so - not be content with simply making tournament.

The Steelers just fired a guy who hadn’t has a losing season for a long time. But he also lost seven consecutive playoff games. Steelers fans wanted him out a long time ago, but he did just enough to survive. I don’t want Pope to survive. I want him to keep losing badly and be shown the door.

Pope isn't going anywhere either way. To root against UK is lame as hell. If Morenos shot tonight didn't at least bring a smile to your face you need to check yourself. That's a Q1 win.

We can’t know for certain whether Pope would be shown the door. But we are, collectively, almost certain that Pope isn’t up to the task of coaching UK. There’s this assumption that he’ll be ousted after year three. Well, if he sneaks into the tournament and wins two games again, it’ll be more difficult to get rid of him even after year three.

So the real question is are we good with a dude who takes a team to the tourney that has no chance to win year in and year out (sometimes narrowly)? Or would we prefer to have a coach who can build contenders? I want the latter and the more Pope fails, the sooner we get there.

Doesnt matter. He'll get year 3. So your whole tangent is irrelevant.

I actually don’t know who is worse Mark Pope or the cringe portion of our fan base who are giddy over this win and think this team is enjoyable to watch. UK=IU from a competitive standpoint and as a fanbase now. Sad to see.

And my point being proven with each response.
Feel free to make like a turkey and get stuffed.

My coworker & I were watching the game on each of our phones at work, he was a few seconds ahead of me, when Oweh missed the 2nd FT & we fouled I turned the game off because of only 1.9 seconds remaining. He kept his on & yelled when Moreno hit the GW, I thought he was messing with me lol. Nope. This team isn't that good but I'm always happy when we win.
