They are mistaken on the cut line watching the feature groups online aren't they? It's top 50 and ties or within 10 shots of the lead meaning if you were in 70th place you still made the cut as long as you were within 10? They just said that since Spieth went to -8 that the cut line was +2. That's wrong isn't it? Surely if someone was up 11 strokes after the 2nd round they wouldn't just cancel the weekend and say he is the champion.
I can't believe they are talking about UofL basketball during the Masters. Poor Paul Casey hits a shot and the announced break into scandal talk. That is what a "hooking lie" means isn't it? :joy:

Lol, yeah, a Masters rookie (A) "blew it". He's T8, even par, and shot one of the better rounds of the day, besting his playing partner & tournament leader Jordan Spieth by 2 strokes.

Did anyone else pick up on this with the feature group announcers online? Carter Blackburn who I have heard do a ton of basketball and some other guy I don't know literally didn't know the cut rules. They said that when Spieth went to -7 that the cut went to +3, when he went to -8 they said +2 and said guys were hoping he would fade back so they could make the putt. Even when he doubled they said the cut moved to + 4. Incredible that they would be announcing the event and not know the rules. They thought you had to be within 10 shots of the lead or you were cut.
Agreed...the guy is damn good from what I've seen of him! Regarding his hat, I like the old school look.
It's fine. Everything about him is pretty much an ode to the people before him...golf is different like that. You could call it cheesy I guess, but I respect it.
Impressive performance. We'll see how he handles the weekend, but it won't change my opinion of him. He's already proven himself on the biggest stage relative to his competitors, he's gonna win on the Tour without question. His swing is so simple, not a whole lot of room for error (or injury) there.

It just makes me mad when announcers don't know the rules of what they are announcing. Just saying. I'm done now.
It's a two part rule. There were going to be at least 50 people playing the weekend regardless of anyone's score. 10 strokes off the lead will nearly always encompass at least 50 players, if it doesn't, then the top 50 plus ties will come into play.
What they said was correct. Players not within 10 strokes are cut. Go back and read what you wrote. Seems like I saw that 55 players made the cut. Not sure.

Maybe I wasn't clear. They were saying that if you weren't within 10 strokes of the lead you were cut. As if in my first hypothetical situation if someone was up by 11 strokes after the second round that would be the only person to make the cut and would be the only person playing the weekend.
I think that's a huge key for him. Very repeatable swing that would seem to hold up under pressure (remains to be seen for his career but I would imagine so) and much less stress on his lower back/spine as upright as he is.
Saw an article from a pro coach advising amateurs to not go out and try emulate the swing. Was talking about how athletic and strong you have to be to pull it off.

The pro I took lessons from in HS taught me a very similar move to DeChambeau's. The "Iron Byron" swing as he referred to it which in theory is supposed to be very machine like. Takeaway to waist level, wrist cock up, release the club back down to the ball all on a single plane. Basically minimizes moving parts so it's easier to make a consistent swing. DeChambeau does it better than anyone I've ever seen. Having a swing so simple makes it tough for nerves to have an effect on how you're hitting it, just as a machine feels no nerves.

Golf needs some unique flare, it's certainly lacking that right now. He had those reporters eating out of his hand yesterday.
I love the hat personally, but Payne Stewart is in my top 3 of all time and they went to the same college. Dechambeau reminds me a bit of a young Payne with how cocky he is. No doubt he will one day look back and laugh a little at just how cocky he was, but for some reason with him, I like that in the guy. He also intrigues me with how brilliant he is and I'm kind of fascinated with all the science aspects he uses in the game. I think it's kind of cool to see this new approach. Also, I'll probably buy the golfing machine book he has memorized and check it out.

I would pencil in the Amateur on Ryder Cup as well. He has won the NCAA's, and US Amateur in same year. Only names to do this are Jack, Phil and Tiger. He should already be named, tired of watching Dustin Johnson-Bubba miss meaningful putts in event, this kid has won more than Dustin already as far as big events.
He is real deal, the science of the swing is fascinating. He will maybe change his wedges to a more conventional club length in time, his overall swing is one that will hold up and should keep him healthy.

When they finally settled on where DeChambeau's drop would be and he looked his downhill lay over a little bit then just walked up and ripped it that raised my eyebrows. Very confident in his swing and he just stepped up and ripped it like it was a practice round.
