It’s all entertainment. No MSM even tries to be neutral anymore. Tucker even argued in a lawsuit that he is so far out there, no sane person could be expected to take him seriously.
I don't watch or keep up with the news at all. When you turn those dipshits off your life becomes a thousand times better.
It's not the cause in its entirety, but it's a big factor. The question is do they nurture the division for an "innocent" reason like profits or is there something more nefarious going on behind the scenes.

It’s amazing how one can think both Tucker Carlson and Rachel Maddow are sensationalist hacks spoon feeding ideological comfort food to a captive audience without being in the tank for either one.

The news is not an extension of "the left". It's not "the right" either. News is still news. If you truly want news then just follow Reuters and the Associated Press. You don't need to go diving deeper and deeper into the web looking for the news. It is on both of those sites, and there is no conspiracy to keep you from it. If you want to actually pay attention to our government then go to C-SPAN. If you need more than that then The Bureau of Investigative Journalism is a great independent source from the UK. The BBC is the largest news organization in the world and it receives no corporate funding. If you want to delve a little deeper into a topic then check out The Christian Science Monitor.
Unfortunately, people don't want news. They want someone to tell them that they are right and to re-confirm their beliefs. If what you call news is something that you always agree with it is not news, it is propaganda. Every single cable news channel from the original CNN to the more recent like ONN are nothing but propaganda machines that are designed to specifically make you outraged and/or fearful so that you will keep watching them. They have no interest in telling the truth, they are only interested in driving up ratings so they can increase their add buys.
If you are trying to convince yourself that the other side is nothing but propaganda, and my side is the only one telling the truth then you are an idiot. If you are buying into the narrative that their side is evil, and my side is the only hope this country has then you are delusional. Very well said. This problem isn’t exclusive to one “side,” as both helped make the mess.
1. Infotainment - CNN, MSNBC, Fox, Newsmax, etc. is roughly 4 percent news and 96 percent punditry. This **** is garbage for people who are so dense they need to to be told what to believe or fear - red or blue
2. Both “sides” have their preferred methods of reaching their bases. The left prefers reporting that makes emotional appeals, faux outrage over little stuff and extreme virtue signaling. The right prefers fear-based reporting, pushing conspiracy theories and the faux conservative persecution complex narrative. Both audiences lap it up like starving dogs.
3. Alternative digital media (Occupy Democrats, Mother Jones, Daily Wire, Brietbart, etc.) are pure propaganda vehicles that skew their reporting on purpose to provide their audiences with the ideological comfort food they crave.
4. Random people who “did their own research” and posted videos on YouTube are not credible sources of valid information and should never be taken seriously. Ever. Credentials matter. I wouldn’t take medical advice from a mechanic or car repair advice from a doctor.
5. Memes are not sources of valid factual information

The media all tell you in there mission what they serve to do. The vast majority of mainstream news exists to provide their consumers with news they want to consume so that they can make a profit. Very few exist to inform anymore. Each political tribe has their extremely biased propoganda networks and then there is a lot of local information about how bad everything is in our select cities. Outside of that you need to dive into very specific types of information to get some subsection of truth. No one is going to tell you anything about all the good going on in the world (there is an amazing amount of good that far exceeds the bad). You have to look up from your phone to see that.
