All the pressure of being the team that finally brought a national championship to MSU just got the best of them between Friday and Monday. Well, no shame in 2nd. Still the greatest team in MSU baseball history.

I submit that the '89 team may have been the best. This one, however, is without question my favorite and certainly the most over-achieving team at state in history.

The problem I have is not necessariy losing. Its that we appear to be so unbelievably unprepared, have no focus, 0 emotion and unable to really execute anything.

It has more to do with UCLA, their pitching was just too good. Plus a great defense. And for a team with a poor batting average, they seemed to hit the ball well to me.

I do agree the guys didn't play as loose as the other games. But UCLA was simply too good. A great run though. I hope this team laid the foundation for future success.

Excellent pitching. And a really pesky style of playing that Will James would loath but puts pressure on other teams and is a winning strategy in this era.

I thought their two starters were very good. low 90's, a little movement, locating and throwing a heavy ball that is very hard to square up. Plutko and Van Tuig are MLB starters. You would get one really hittable pitch per AB maybe, and we would miss it or pop it up. their defense was very good, ours was sketchy. Our pitching didn't really hold up, especially the starters. Our big guns couldn't get it going. they outplayed us in this series.

I am proud of how we played. I like Cohen a lot. Go and pick up a bunch of good recruits (starting pitchers) and lets go back again next year. I really enjoyed this years team.

How would you compare the talent between 1980 and now?

I really don't know. I know training, weights, etc. have vastly improved, but at the same time I think a lot of athletes who would have played baseball then are playing basketball or football now. I think the NBA was still shown on tape delay back then. Which I guess means it's a wash.

Your guys had a great season.

UCLA has been to the CWS three out of the last four years. They were prepared

for the stage and had an excellent plan to win it and they did. We tried
to do too much with our bats and it played right into their hands. Give UCLA
credit, they have a team built to win in that park and with this ball and bat.
Their pitcher were perfect for this tournament but I will say they will struggle much
more with their approach at the next level, they will have to adjust. Excellent pitching
staff.
