I'm old, but in my day this would have been a non-issue and the University would have aligned with the instructor. Not saying her message was just, but it was a different time. Reminds me of a story Judge Ishee (Business Law Instructor and local Judge) used to tell and I will paraphrase it.
Story goes that there was a law student at Ole Miss who's prominent family owned prime quail hunting property and bird dogs to go with it. Professor asked the student if they could go hunting the next day, where the student reminded the professor that they had an exam in his class that day. Professor assured the student that if they were to hunt, that since it was his exam that he would take care of the student. They do go hunting the next day, when the student get his grades, he has a zero for that exam. approaches the professor and reminds him of their agreement, professor states that he just learned a valuable lesson, don't trust anyone. Have no idea if the story is true, but I still remember it after all of these years.
